County once again under burn ban

January 24, 2012

Hutchinson County is once again under a burn ban.
During the Hutchinson County Commissioners Court meeting Monday, Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards encouraged commissioners to approve reinforcement of the burn ban.
He said during the past two weeks a lot of deterioration has occurred and firefighters have been called out to six grass fires.
“Weather reports say that we might receive moisture but we don’t feel it will be enough to offset our conditions,” said Richards. Commissioners approved to place the burn ban in effect for the next 90 days.
On Monday, January 9, 2012, the Hutchinson County Commissioners Court met and tabled the burn ban originally lifted on Nov. 21, 2011.
The burn ban in effect now prohibits the burning of trash and any type of burning in open pits.
It does not affect farmers who do agricultural burning, but does restrict other types of outdoor burning.
Those caught could face a fine of $500.
“We encourage citizens for their safety to enforce the burn ban,” Richards stated.
