County native dies in fatal shooting

January 18, 2012

On Saturday, January 14, 2012, Hutchinson County native Amie Kuykendall, 32, was fatally shot by husband Alan Kuykendall, 47, in their home.
The two lived in Moore County at the time of the shooting. Kuykendall was placed in Moore County Jail after the incident Saturday night.
At the time of the shooting Mrs. Kuykendall was arguing with her husband around 10:35 p.m., investigators said.
It was said Mrs. Kuykendall was on the phone with a friend who remains anonymous. The friend heard a shot and called 911. Before deputies could reach the home at 10800 block of McClary St., she was dead on site, investigators said.
Investigators also recovered a .38-caliber handgun at the scene which they think was used in the shooting, Chief Deputy Carmen Napp said. The number of shots is still undetermined until the results from an autopsy that was scheduled in Lubbock yesterday are back. The Moore County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. Kuykendall remains in Moore County Jail on $1 million bond and charged with first degree murder.
