Comanches take win over Clarendon in baseball

February 28, 2012

The West Texas Comanches were back home yesterday to host the Clarendon Broncos on the diamond. The Tribe is trying for their third straight playoff appearance this year. The team picked up a 13-4 win over the Clarendon Broncos. Senior Carlos Juarez got the win, throwing four innings. Juarez allowed four runs, on three hits, just one run was earned. He had six strike outs and walked only one batter. Jess Shields closed the game, pitching the final three innings. Shields did a nice job for the Comanches, allowing no runs, and only one hit. He struck out seven batters and zero walks. Big Ty Lay was the lone Comanche with an extra base hit with a double.

The Comanches scored their thirteen runs off off ten hits and seven Bronco errors. Clarendon's four runs came off of just four hits and four Tribe errors.

The game was tied at three all after the first inning. WT added a run in the second inning to take a 4-3 edge. The Comanches got three more runs after the third for a 7-3 lead, and they doubled that in the fourth with six more runs to take a comfortable 13-4 lead, just one run shy of the "mercy rule" to end the game after four. Neither team managed a score after that as the score stood up for a 13-4 West Texas win.
