Comanches blank Shamrock to remain perfect in district baseball

April 3, 2012

The Irish weren’t so lucky Saturday afternoon when the WT Comanches came to Shamrock and held the men in green scoreless in an 8-0 win. Carlos Juarez went all seven innings and got the win for the Tribe. He fanned six hitters while walking just one. Juarez also singled to left field and walked twice, scoring three runs. The Tribe made a couple of heads up plays defensively and Chase Elliott did a nice job behind the plate.
The Comanches took a couple of innings to get their bats warned up. Juarez walked to lead off for the Comanches. Ty Lay got him in scoring position at third with a fielder’s choice hit to short. Elliott banged an RBI double to center field to score Juarez. The Irish got a man to third on an error but WT retired the next three hitters and led 1-0.
Bailey Kerr got hit by a pitch to get on board in the second, but three K’s sent the Comanches quickly back out field. Three up and three down was the fate of the Irish and they still trailed 1-0 after two.
Juarez led off with a base hit to left field to start the third. Tyler Hoff was next up and he delivered a great hit to center field for a double and an RBI as Juarez came home. Lay got on with a walk and Elliot had an RBI single to left to bring Lay in. Lane Shelton got an RBI base hit and WT had scored five and still had no outs. Connor St. Charles got on base with two outs, but he was left on base. The Tribe had added five runs to their total and led 6-0.
Shamrock managed to get a man on base with two outs, but a great throw from Alex Ramirez to Connor St. Charles at third to tag the base runner for out number three. The Comanches had no luck this inning going three up and three down.
The Irish put a man on first with a base hit, but second baseman Lane Shelton caught an high fly at and threw to Hoff covering the bag from short to retire the side. Shelton and Ramirez were left on base in the top of the fourth. Another three up, three down for Shamrock in the bottom of the fifth, and the score remained 6-0 after five.
Spencer St. Charles got on base after an Irish error and Juarez walked to put runners on first and second. Hoff drove the ball hard over third base for a double and an RBI. He was left on base as the next three WT hitters struck out, but add two runs to the total for an 8-0 lead.
With the first two Irish to the plate out, two fielding errors and an intentional walk loaded the bases with two away. Juarez fanned the batter for the third out and the Tribe was leading 8-0.
The Comanches went three up and three down in the top of the seventh. A one out base hit put a runner on first for Shamrock. Juarez fanned the next batter for the second out, and Elliott gunned down the base runner at second for out three.
Hoff had a good day with his bat, with two doubles and two RBI’s. Elliott had a double and and 2 RBI’s. Shelton had an RBI.
WT is 3-0 in District action and 7-7 overall. Their next game is Tuesday in Stinnett.
