The Borger City Council has officially ratified the results of this year’s general election.
After a canvass of the votes of the election, which was held this past Saturday, a resolution was passed to canvass the returns and declare the results of the election.
Following this action, council members Robert Vinyard, who currently serves as Mayor Pro-Tem, and Jeff Brain, who currently serves as Mayor, were administered the oath of office and the statement of elected officer. The two then presented certificates of election to each other.
Mayor Brain ran unopposed for another term in the Place Three spot on the council. Vinyard was re-elected to the council as well, winning election with 394 votes over challengers Brandy Callahan, who received 321 votes, and John Ray, who received 60 votes.
Normally after all this action is taken, a vote is taken on the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem positions. However, such a vote must be taken when all council members are in attendance and council member Leon DeWeese was not in attendance.
In other business, the council acted on the sanitary sewer dedication agreement between Harvey Tire Company, Riddle’s Welding, and the City of Borger.
James Harder, Director of Utilities for the City of Borger, said both companies are currently connected to septic sewer systems, and each desires to connect to the City Sanitary Sewer System. He said both are willing to install the necessary sewer lines, manholes, and highway bore to city specifications and dedicate them to the city.
Harder said he has surveyed the proposed lines, drawn the plans, and obtained a utility installation permit from the Texas Department of Transportation. This project will be of no cost to the City of Borger.
Council members attending the meeting were Charles Gillingham, Bubba Dickson, Mayor Pro-Tem Vinyard, and Mayor Brain. DeWeese was not in attendance.
