Christmas movies stir holiday spirit in all of us
There is no doubt about it. Borger News-Herald readers and staff love their Christmas movies.BNH Facebook fans were asked what movie gets them in the Christmas spirit during this time of year. Sammy Ponce said he enjoys “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost In New York”.Janice Brewster said she likes to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Lisa Lamberson Willis said her favorite holiday film is “Prancer.” Amanda Deschaines said she likes the holiday classic “White Christmas”.Robyn Wood said she likes all three of the films in the “Santa Clause” trilogy starring Tim Allen. Debbie Matlock said her favorite is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Lone Star Ballet/Lone Star Ballet also named “White Christmas” as a favorite.“With Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Allen, how can you go wrong?” they said. “Not to mention all of the wonderful holiday dance numbers!”Lyndsey Bryan said she likes the first “Santa Clause” film and “Home Alone”. Tara Moyer said her favorite is the Chevy Chase comedy “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”. BNH sports editor Mikala Reiswig said she and her son both enjoy the “Home Alone” movies, “Elf”, “Charlie Brown Christmas”, and “The Polar Express”. Pat Landrum said her favorite is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Stephanie Hooper, advertising manager for the BNH, said she doesn’t have one favorite Christmas movie that she watches every year, aside from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Christmas Vacation”, but she does enjoy watching all the Christmas movies that are played on the Hallmark Channel and on Lifetime.“These are all heartfelt movies that can really put you in the Christmas mood,” she said.BNH Publisher Debra Wells said her favorite movie is “A Christmas Story” and “The Polar Express” is a close second.Maryk Harbour said her favorite Christmas movies are “Home Alone” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”.Mari Anne Hadley Swain said her Christmas favorites are “Charlie Brown Christmas”, “The Polar Express”, and “Miracle on 34th Street” (black and white version).DeAnn Martin Throckmorton said she enjoys any and all Christmas cartoons.“I remember watching them with my boys when they were young and now I’m getting to watch them with my grandkids,” she said.Donna Sharp Haynes said her favorite is “White Christmas”.David Fisher said his favorite Christmas movie is “A Christmas Story.”“‘A Christmas Story’ is the best classic Christmas movie ever,” he said. “Every year on Christmas Eve they show ‘A Christmas Story’ 24 hours through Christmas Day, and all of my family gets up and watches that while we unwrap gifts. It’s just a great family movie that will bring laughter and joy to the whole family no matter how bad or good things may be.”BNH advertising representative Angie Mendoza said her favorite is “The Christmas Carol,” both the newer and older versions, saying it’s the story that draws her in every time.BNH reporter Tara Hopkins said her favorite Christmas movie would have to be all of the original Christmas cartoons, because she can’t pick just one.“They just bring back good memories to me,” she said. “Every year on Christmas, I remember my mom, aunt, and me, sitting down with popcorn and watching these shows every year when they came on TV. The only breaks we would take were during the commercials. Now I own the box set and just bring them with me for the whole family to watch before we have to go home so Santa can come. Then we pick up where we left off on Christmas. This tradition will never get old. If I had to pick a favorite out of all of them, it would be Rudolph, because who doesn’t like a reindeer with a red glowing nose that can overcome any obstacle?”Jason Wright said his favorite Christmas movies are “A Christmas Story” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”.BNH managing editor Michelle Berry said she loves all of the movies that come on the Hallmark Channel. However, her all-time favorite is “It’s A Wonderful Life,” because it’s a movie that leaves her feeling festive and has a timeless message about the importance of every life.So pull out those Christmas movies, put on some popcorn and cocoa, and let that one special movie put you in the Christmas spirit this year!
