Child struck by vehicle in Fritch, suffers injuries

September 10, 2013

An unidentified 9 year old boy was struck by a van while riding his bicycle through a crosswalk at the intersection of Hoyne and Broadway in Fritch just after 8am this morning.
The boy suffered some serious injuries including a broken collar bone, broken ribs, and a punctured lung.
According to Fritch Police Department Chief Leggett, the driver of the van was blinded by the rising sun and did not see the child. Leggett also stated that the Fritch PD has collected reports from witnesses confirming these circumstances.
The child was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo by Fritch EMS.
"This is what we try so hard to guard against in school zones." says Leggett, "This is why we are so adamant that people slow down and pay attention. This is something we never want to deal with, but sometimes we have to. Thank God he is alive."
