On Friday night, the Bushland Lady Falcons squared off with the Borger Lady Bulldogs in a non-district contest at Tex Hanna Gym.
Through three periods, the Lady Bulldogs were in striking distance to come away with a nice win. However, the breaks continue to not fall the Lady Bulldogs way, as Bushland was able to outscore Borger 18-9 in the fourth period to pull away for the 54-42 win.
The game was a little sloppy with the two teams combining for 46 turnovers. But, the Lady Falcons were able to take advantage of second chance opportunities by out rebounding the Lady Bulldogs 38-27 in the game.
After playing to an 8-8 score, the Lady Bulldogs started the second period by taking a 13-8 lead off of five straight points scored by McKenzie Loftis.
Bushland answered by tying the game before Nellie Embers nailed a three pointer to give Borger back a three point lead, 16-13.
The Lady Falcons responded by finishing the first half on a 7-2 run to take a 18-20 lead into halftime.
At the 3:40 mark of the third period, the Lady Bulldogs took back the lead, 26-24, when Katie Sizemore took a steal in for a lay up. But a 7-0 run helped Bushland take back the lead and hold a 33-36 lead going into the fourth period.
By the 3:40 mark of the fourth period, the Lady Falcons extended their lead to nine points. However, the Lady Bulldogs tried to make a late rally and were able to pull back to within five points, 40-45, with 1:35 to go.
Unfortunately, the comeback win was not in the cards as solid free throw shooting and a couple of turnovers allowed the Lady Falcons to hang on for the win.
The loss drops Borger to 3-11 for the season. The Lady Bulldogs will next travel over to Stinnett on Monday to take on the West Texas High Lady Comanches.
