On Tuesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs outscored the Amarillo Highland Park Hornets 22-0 in the third period leading them to pull away for a 63-38 win at Tex Hanna Gym.
The win was one of those games were every Bulldog player had at least a rebound or put points on the scoreboard, led by junior Jamon Hearon who scored 22 points in his game back after missing three games due to a leg injury.
The Bulldogs started the game a little slow leading to the Hornets to open the game building a 12-4 lead.
But the Bulldogs finished the first period strong with junior Kolter Newton scoring five straight points to pull back to within two points, 19-17, going into the second period.
The Bulldogs opened the second period on a on a 7-0 run to take a 24-19 lead by the 5:40 mark.
However, 15 first half turnovers by the Bulldogs allowed the Hornets to stay in the game and end the first half with a 6-0 run to hold a 31-29 lead at halftime.
In the third period, the Bulldogs came out playing aggressive on both ends, which quickly led to the Bulldogs taking the lead at the 6:20 mark on a three pointer by senior Grant Boren.
Throughout the third period, the Bulldogsâ€™ defense kept the Hornets off the scoreboard for an entire period and led to the team having several fast break opportunities, as the Bulldogs built a 51-31 lead going into the fourth period.
Finally at the 7:20 mark of the fourth period, the Hornets scored their first basket of the second half.
But the Bulldogs remained in control down the stretch and were able to cap off the night with back to back three pointers by Boren and senior Aaron Smith.
The win improves the Bulldogs record to 5-7 overall for the 2011 season.
The Bulldogs will return to the court on Friday evening at Tex Hanna Gym hosting Bushland at 8:00 p.m.
