On Friday afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs got their second 10-run rule win over the Dalhart Golden Wolves in District 1-3A play by a score of 13-3 at Huber Park.
The Wolves kept the game close through the top of the fourth inning, where the Bulldogs had only a 4-3 lead. But in their final three at bats of the game, the Bulldogs racked up ten runs to pull away for the win.
Senior Garth Payton got the start on the pitcher’s mound for the Bulldogs and did a solid job going six 1/3 innings giving up three runs on four hits while striking out five Wolf batters.
The Wolves took the early 0-1 lead in the top of the first inning off a RBI single. But the Bulldogs quickly tied the game, when Chayse Tracy brought in Max Lusk on a RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead off of RBI hits by Lusk, Tracy, and Clay Ellis.
In the fourth inning, Dalhart bounced back to pull to within one run with an error and a walk set up the Wolves for a two RBI single. But it didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to answer back as the Bulldog brought three runs across home plate in the inning, off a two RBI single by Lusk and a sacrifice fly by Ellis.
The Bulldogs opened the game up in the fifth inning when a fielding error allowed Hunter Gray to reach third base with no outs. Grant Boren would bring Gray in to score on another Dalhart error before being brought in on a RBI single by Colten Hunter. Before the fifth inning was over, the Bulldogs brought in another run on a bach to make it a 10-3 game.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs capped off the run-rule win with RBI hits by Kota Dillard, Chance Yeager, and Hunter.
The win improved the Bulldogs to 3-1 in district play, while Dalhart drops to 0-4.
The Bulldogs will next travel to Perryton on Tuesday to take on the Rangers who upset Pampa on Friday afternoon, 13-9. Borger, Pampa, and Perryton currently sit tied for the district lead at 3-1.
The game between the Rangers and Bulldogs will begin at 4:30 p.m.
