On Saturday afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs finished the Amarillo River Road Tournament by taking third place with a 52-51 win over Boys Ranch.
Through three periods on Friday afternoon, the Bulldogs appeared to be heading to a District 1-3A showdown for the tournament title with Pampa.
However, an injury to junior Jamon Hearon and cold shooting in the fourth period allowed Clarendon to comeback and upset the Bulldogs and send them to the third place game.
The Bulldogs squared off with a Boys Ranch team that has plenty of athleticism and played fairly well against Pampa in the other semifinal game before falling 74-65.
The third place game stayed close through the first two periods with Boys Ranch holding a 22-21 lead at halftime.
Boys Ranch extended their lead to seven by the end of the third period. However, the Bulldogs did a good job bouncing back to have a strong fourth period to come away with the one point win.
Grant Boren led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points, followed by Daniel Salinas with 10 points.
The Bulldogs improve to 4-5 for the season.
Hearon and Salinas were both selected to the River Road All-Tournament team.
The Sanford-Fritch Eagles finished the River Road Tournament with a 60-46 loss to River Road on Saturday.
Sanford-Fritch reached their match up with River Road by falling to the Gruver Greyhounds on Friday afternoon.
Gruver opened with a 27-6 run on their way to defeating the Eagles 42-28.
On Saturday, the Eagles found themselves down by 19 at halftime but rallied to cut their deficit to seven, 44-37, going into the fourth period.
Unfortunately a comeback would not happen with River Road finishing strong to get the 14 point win.
Hunter Cunningham led the Eagles with 16 points, followed by Ryan Melton chipping in 12.
On the girls side of the bracket. the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles wrapped up the tournament defeating the Borger Lady Bulldogs 59-33.
Lady Eagles sophomore Mikala Setliff had a big game scoring 20 points and nine rebounds followed by senior Mariah Cumings scoring 12 points. No leading scorers were available for the Lady Bulldogs.
Summer Tubbs of Sanford-Fritch was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will next travel to Panhandle tomorrow evening with the girls starting at 6:00 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Sanford-Fritch boys and girls will host West Texas High tomorrow evening with the girls starting at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at 8:00 p.m.
