Bulldogs finish in 12th place at 3A State Cross Country meet

November 15, 2011

On Saturday, the Borger Bulldogs Cross County team finished the 2011 season coming in 12th place in the 3A State Cross Country meet in Round Rock.
Kaufman took first place in the 3A boys team standings with 61 points followed by Sanger in second place with 80 points and Liberty Hill in third place with 97 points. Borger finished with 260 points.
Despite coming in 12th place, Borger Cross Country Head Coach Leslie Young was proud of her team’s effort saying, “We were disappointed in not improving our place over last season. The gap between our #1 and #5 runners was 45 seconds on Saturday, instead of the 22 second or 36 second gaps from district and regionals. What we have to do is look at the overall picture and that is that we were 12th in the state of Texas in class 3A which has 190 schools in it.”
Young added, “I can’t say enough good things about this team. We’ve been led by an excellent group of seniors who have made it a point to stick together and set a high standard for this program. They leave quite a mark on this program having won three district titles in a row, one regional championship (first in school history for CC), second at regionals and three consecutive trips to the state meet.”
Senior Jordan Robertson led the Bulldogs with a 43rd place finish with a time of 17:59.94 and senior Grant Boren finished in 45th place with a time of 18:01.63.
Other Borger times were: 61st Aaron Smith 18:35.33, 65th Lane Newcomb 18:43.69; 66th Josh Gonzales
18:44.48, 70th Travis Huffine 18:47.59, 79th Caleb Withers 19:26.02.
