SPEARMAN-Tuesday evening can be considered one of the more dominating performances the Borger Bulldog basketball team has seen on the court in a couple of years.
Despite the Spearman Lynx attempts to slow down the game and limit scoring opportunities for Borger, the Bulldogs controlled the action from the opening tip off on their way to getting a 50-20 win in Spearman.
Borger Jamon Hearon opened the scoring for the Bulldogs by putting in the first four points of the evening. However, the Bulldogs got contributions from Daniel Salinas, Tyrell Haynes, and Cameron Maxwell to open the first period by taking a 15-4 lead.
In the second period, the Bulldogs only managed to put up six points. But solid defense kept Spearman from getting anything going offensively.
The solid play on defense by the Bulldogs continued in the third period as Spearman only managed to scoring two points in eight minutes.
The Bulldogs took advantage of Spearman’s woes with an 11-2 run that included senior Aaron Smith putting in the final four points of the third period to give Borger a 32-10 lead.
The Bulldogs came out playing more aggressive in the fourth period, which led to several easy scoring opportunities with the Bulldogs finishing the night shooting 50% from the floor.
Smith continued to have the hot hand in the fourth period by nailing two three pointers as the Bulldogs pulled away for the 30 point win.
The Bulldogs improve to 8-10 for the season and will go for the Hansford County sweep Friday night when they travel north to take on the Gruver Greyhounds in Gruver starting at 7:00 p.m.
