On Monday evening, the Borger Bulldogs traveled to Canyon to take on the Dimmitt Bobcats at the West Texas A&M Event Center.
The Bulldogs trailed by one point after the first period, but were able to finish strong and hung on for the 55-51 win.
After dealing with an eye injury last week, Borger junior Jamon Hearon had a big game scoring 21 points that included nailing four three pointers.
Senior Grant Boren also was hot behind the three point line where he hit three and had 11 points for the game.
Borger Head Boys Basketball Coach Chet Byerly was pleased with his team’s shooting, saying, “It was nice having Jamon back near to normal after suffering from an eye injury the past week. He and Grant really shot the ball well.”
Despite the win, Byerly was quick to point out that the Bulldogs still have a lot of work to do in order to get better, saying, “The guys played hard and did some things well. However, we are going to have to rebound better and start taking much more care of the ball, if we are going to be as competitive as we want to be.”
The win takes the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the season.
Borger will next take part in the Pampa Lions Club Invitational Tournament this weekend. The Bulldogs will open the tournament on Friday evening taking on Lawton at 6:00 p.m.
Borger scoring stats Jamon Hearon 21, Grant Boren 11, Seth Rawlinson 8, Tyrell Haynes 4, Daniel Salinas 4, Jacob Rendon 3, Cameron Maxwell 2, Kolter Newton 2.
