Brenden Kai Moffitt, 23, has been charged with 1st degree murder for the New Year's Day slaying of his father, Herschel Bryan Moffitt, who died from multiple fatal gunshot wounds, according to a Lt. Jeremy Hundley from the Borger Police Department.

On January 1st, 2014, police officers were dispatched to 918 Nelson St. in Borger in reference to "shots fired." While responding, stated Lt. Hundley in a press release, law enforcement learned that a person had been shot and had died of his wounds. Kai Moffitt, who was still at the scene when officers arrived, surrendered to police and was detained and later taken to the Borger Police Department for booking.

While investigating, officers learned that the incident had stemmed from a domestic dispute between the father and son, Lt. Hundley said in the release. Excerpts from the social media site Facebook showed that the two men had recently exchanged harsh words, accusations, insults, and threats as little as a day before the shooting.

Judge Shila Hart has ordered an autopsy on Herschel Bryan Moffitt, which will be performed on Friday, January 3, 2014 in Lubbock, according to Lt. Hundley

Bail has been set at $100,000.

When completed, the investigation results will be presented to the Hutchinson County District Attorney's Office.
