BPD leads in shutdown of illegal establishment

October 30, 2012

The Borger Police Department took the lead in a shut down of an illegally operated establishment on 11th Street Saturday night.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said that on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, an illegally operating establishment known as “Da Cutts,” located on East 11th Street, was shut down as law enforcement officers executed a search warrant for the premises.
The illegally operated establishment had become notorious for calls for service for law enforcement due to fights, gun shots in the area, narcotics activity, and other breaches of the peace, he said.
The issuance of the search warrant was due to violations in regards to the sale of alcohol without a license, which is a general penalty through the Alcohol Beverage Code punishable by confinement to up to one year in jail.
During the execution of the search warrant, a considerable amount of alcohol was seized from the establishment. Lt. Griffin said this investigation, and ultimately the execution of the search warrant, was led by the Borger Police Department.
Assisting the Borger Police Department were the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office, the Borger Fire Marshal, and the Skellytown City Marshal.
Lt. Griffin said that as of this date and time, no arrests have been made pending further investigation resulting from evidence seized during the search warrant execution. Arrest warrants for those involved are likely to be issued in the near future.
“It should be noted that any person or persons found in violation of the City of Borger Ordinances and/or Alcohol Beverage Code Laws are subject to punishment set forth within these statues,” he said.
