BPD issues warning on door to door scam

June 18, 2012

The Borger Police Department wants to warn local citizens to be on the alert of a possible door-to-door scam being used by a local resident.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD, the local resident is described as a Hispanic female, in her mid 20s, slender build, approximately 5’7”, approximately 120 pounds, with brown or black hair, and brown eyes.
“This individual will knock on the door of residences and ask to either use the phone or restroom,” he said. “Once inside, this individual will gain the trust of the resident, and by doing so, the individual begins to steal items from the residence.”
The BPD has taken five reports on this person in the month of June. At this time, the individual has not shown any type of aggressive behavior towards the victims. However, it is not known as to how this individual will react if caught in the commission of a theft, so caution is advised.
Lt. Griffin said this individual is mostly targeting the elderly population.
“Anyone coming into contact with this individual or any other individuals that appear to be suspicious in nature, do not hesitate to contact the Borger Police Department,” he said. “The BPD requests that citizens always be safe, aware, and vigilant.
Anyone with information on this person or who may come contact with her is asked and encouraged to call the BPD at 806-273-0930.
