Borger MS Walk scheduled for April 30

April 5, 2011

What if every morning after waking up, you had to inspect your body to make sure everything was properly working? What if you were forced to live with one of the most expensive diseases that would cost you close or well over $70,000 each year?
This is what a MS patient has to live through every day of their life. Because of these hurting people local citizens will be walking toward a world free of MS on Saturday, April 30, at Crockett Elementary School.
Last year’s Borger MS Walk was very successful, raising $16,000. Borger is also home to the Panhandle’s top Walk MS Fundraiser. In 2010, Don MacAhan raised more than $6,000 just by himself, making the Conoco-Phillips team the area’s top fundraising team for 2010.
Walk MS is the most important part of the MS movement because a community coming together to help raise and to celebrate for the hope of the future is the best thing to experience.
More than 800 people in the Texas Panhandle Tri-State area live with MS daily. The funds raised at Walk MS events will help provide a variety of educational programs and services, case management and medical navigation services, and direct financial assistance.
Other area Walk MS events will be held in Clovis and Perryton on April 9, Amarillo on April 16, and Dumas on April 30.
The 2010 Walk MS events in Borger, Dumas, Perryton, Clovis, and Amarillo combined raised $103,000. To become part of a team or individual, log on to Walkmstexas.org or call 1-800-344-4876. There is no registration fee and no minimum pledge. MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t.
