Borger man indicted for capital murder

June 23, 2011

A Borger man has been indicted for capital murder.
On Thursday, a Hutchinson County Grand Jury met to consider evidence in the April 20, 2011, slaying of Lois Kimbrell. Mrs. Kimbrell, 97, was found dead in her Borger home on the morning of April 21 by a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She suffered multiple stab wounds as well as blunt force head trauma.
The Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Gregorio Felan, 47, of Borger, with capital murder in the death of Mrs. Kimbrell, according to 84th Judicial District Attorney Mark Snider. Felan is charged with intentionally murdering Mrs. Kimbrell in the course of sexually assaulting her.
If he is convicted of capital murder, Felan could be sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division for the remainder of his life without possibility of parole. If the State seeks the death penalty, a jury could sentence him to die by lethal injection.
Snider said he is very pleased with the thorough investigation conducted by both the Texas Rangers and the Borger Police Department.
This capital murder was indicted in the 316th Judicial District Court for Hutchinson County and Judge John W. LaGrone will preside over this matter.
Felan is being represented by Amarillo attorneys Jeff Blackburn and Adam Tisdale. He remains incarcerated in the Hutchinson County Jail with his bond being denied.
