Borger and West Texas High win on first day of tournament

On day one of the Sanford-Fritch “Ducks on the Pond” Softball Tournament, the Borger Lady Bulldogs and West Texas High Lady Comanches won their opening round games setting up a Hutchinson County Showdown in the semi-finals for Friday at 1:00 p.m..
The two teams got their wins in different fashion, as the Lady Bulldogs had no problems beating the Claude Lady Mustangs 15-0 in three innings, while the Lady Comanches squeaked out a 10-9 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles Black squad.

Lady Bulldog sophomore pitcher Taylor Hickman had a good game by not giving up a run while striking out six Lady Mustang batters in three innings of work.
In the first and second innings, the Lady Bulldogs put base runners in scoring position, only to leave both innings without scoring a run. But in the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Bulldog bats came alive scoring 15 runs to force the 15-run rule.
Tootie Karins brought in the first Lady Bulldog run on a bunt along with two Lady Mustang errors.
Katie Ammerman, Lauran Hernandez, and Kyla Baker followed Karins with RBI hits to quickly make it a 4-0 game.
The runs continued to come in until Dakota Karins ended the game with a RBI single to give the 15-0 final score.
West Texas High 10 Sanford-Fritch Black 9
The Lady Comanches and Lady Eagles squared off in a great game with the Lady Comanches scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning.
After the first inning, the Lady Comanches jumped out to a 4-2 lead. But in the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Eagles scored six runs to take a 4-8 lead.
But three runs in the fourth and the one run in the fifth allowed the Lady Comanches to get the comeback win.
Hailee Flaharity had the strong bat for the Lady Comanches, hitting a triple and having 4 RBI’s.
