West Texas High hosted the Booker Kiowas Tuesday afternoon in a clash of the tribes. The Comanches were hoping to remain perfect going into the game with a 3-0 record. The Comanches committed eleven errors in a 16-6 loss and they struggled at the plate. Jess Shirley took the loss with two strike outs, he allowed ten hits and seven earned runs. Carlos Juarez closed the last two innings allowing just two hits and three earned runs.
The Kiowas knocked the ball over the field almost at will. They scored three runs in the top of the first off of five hits. WT loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but left them stranded.
Two Comanche errors gave Booker two more runs in the top of the second. WT got on the board with five hits and scored four runs. The home town Tribe trailed by one 5-4 in the bottom of the second.
Booker added two more runs with two more singles in the bottom of the third. West Texas failed to get anything going with the sticks and trailed 7-4 at the end of three.
WT held this time with one hitter was left on base. They also put up two more runs to reduce the Kiowas lead to one run, 7-6 after four innings.
After the fifth inning, Booker led 10-6 at the end of five, as the Comanches continued to struggle at the plate.
The Kiowas got one run in and left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth and more frustration with the bats for WT. They trailed 11-6 art the end of six.
Multiple Comanche errors gave Booker four more runs in the top of the seventh and they increased their lead to 16-6. West Texas went three up and three down with strike outs to end the game.
WT had several players with a base hits, but those short hits just couldn't get enough runs across home. Tyler Hoff went 3/4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and three base hits. Carlos Juarez, Ty Lay, and Chase Elliott each had an RBI.
The Comanches are 8-8 overall and 3-1 in District play. Their next game is in Stinnett on Friday, April 6 at 1:00.
