Booker edges WT High in District baseball

April 12, 2011

The West Texas Comanches let one get by them yesterday in Stinnett. They had the lead 15-12 going into the top of the seventh inning, but a determined Booker team scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 16-15 edge. The Comanches certainly didn't give it up easily. The loaded the bases with the bottom of the order and just one out, but could not get the runs across the plate. Booker came away with the win 16-15.

The Tribe used four pitchers. Alex Ramirez started and threw the first inning with one strike out. Kyle Stroud pitched the next two with three strike outs. Tyler Hoff pitched the next two and a half with two strike outs. Carlos Juarez came in to close in the top of the seventh. He threw to four batters. He struck out two and one grounded out, to get the Comanches out of the inning.

Several hitters for West Texas had a good outing in spite of the loss. Logan Hoff was 4-5 with a single, a walk, a triple, and he also got to first on a nice little bunt down third base line. Kyle Stroud went 3-5 with a double, a triple, and he had 2 RBI's. Big Ty Lay was 2-4 with two doubles. He also got on base with a walk and was also hit by a pitch.

Carlos Juarez was 3-4 with a base hit, two doubles, and he had three RBI's. Terrence Bonds had a triple and two RBI's. Jeremy O'Gorman hit a triple with an RBI. Chancy Simmons had two RBI's. Alex Ramirez was 2-4.

The game was a close one all the way. Errors and a couple of walked batters on defense, plus the Comanches left eleven base runners stranded, made the difference in the game.

The Comanches are now 11-6 overall and 4-2 in District. The Comanches are still alone in second place and will hold the tie breaker over Claude. Follett sits alone in first place with a 6-0 record, with the Tribe coming to town Friday to try to give them their first loss.
