On Tuesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs dropped to 1-2 in District 1-3A play by losing to the Dalhart Golden Wolves 58-32 at Tex Hanna Gym.
The Bulldogs struggled to take care of the ball leading to the team committing 26 turnovers. The Wolves took advantage of those Borger miscues by scoring 16 points directly off turnovers, including eight points in the third period, to help Dalhart build a 13 point lead going into the fourth period.
The Bulldogs got off to a good start in the game taking an early 4-0 lead off of baskets by Tyrell Haynes and Jamon Hearon.
Dalhart answered by scoring five straight points, but the Bulldogs ended the first period with a 6-5 lead, after Daniel Salinas sank two free throws.
In the second period, the Bulldogs maintained the lead until the 1:12 mark. However, Dalhart finished the first half with a 7-0 run, including scoring five points off of Borger turnovers, to go into halftime with a 18-22 lead.
The third period started with the two teams exchanging baskets, including a basket in the paint by Salinas.
But by the 6:40 mark the tide of the game started to turn in favor of the Wolves, as Dalhart scored six straight points off of Bulldog turnovers to go on a 10-0 run to take a 20-34 lead.
A three pointer by Grant Boren and a jumper by Dillon Carrillo pulled the Bulldogs back to within seven points by the 2:00 mark of the third period, 27-34. Unfortunately, the Wolves finished the third period on a 9-0 run setting the tone for Dalhart to pull away in the fourth period for the win.
Dalhart improves to 2-1 in District 1-3A play and 15-9 overall, while Borger drops to 10-13 overall for the season.
The Bulldogs will now focus on the second round of district play, which will begin on Friday night in Perryton. Tip off with the Rangers is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
