BISD superintendent gets contract extension

Chance Welch will continue to remain at the helm of the Borger Independent School District for the foreseeable future.
At its regular meeting Thursday evening, the Borger ISD board of trustees offered Welch a five-year contract that will run from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2018. The decision was made following an executive session.
Welch said he values the opportunity to continue his service to Borger ISD.
“I deeply appreciate the school board’s confidence in the direction of our schools,” he said. “I am proud of the strides we have made, and I look forward to continuing our commitment to provide students with an exemplary education.”
In other business, the board approved the receipt of resignations and new hires for the district.
Resignations received were from Kristen Austin, an ELA teacher at Borger High School; Sharon Fick, a second grade teacher at Gateway Elementary; and Lee Ratliff, ag teacher at Borger High School.
The board also received notice of the retirement of Dewey De Loe, who has served as the longtime technology director for the district.
New hires approved by the board were as follows:
•Jessica Bechtel, fifth grade teacher at Borger Intermediate School
•Shaun Greenwald, ELA teacher at Borger High School
•Jessica Hays, ELA teacher at Borger High Schol
•Evan Hindman, ag teacher at Borger High School
•Myron Stiles, second grade teacher at Gateway Elementary
Two donations to the district were approved by the board. The donations were a $400 donation from the Borger Basketball Booster Club for the basketball program and a $200 donation from the Jane Phillips Sorority for teacher supplies at Crockett and Gateway.
Board members in attendance were Robert Bradley, Todd Harris, David Brandon, Les Sharp, Diedre Hood, Dr. Kent Gray, and Bill Myers.
