BHS gearing up for homecoming activities

September 12, 2012

Borger High School is gearing up for its homecoming activities!
The school's homecoming parade will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012. The parade route will line up at 5:30 in the parking lot of Realife Church (formerly Cornerstone Christian Church) (10th & Main) and will proceed south on Main Street, west on Third Street, and south on McGee towards BHS.
The parade will end in the BHS parking lot, and the pep rally will be held at Tex Hanna Gym shortly after the conclusion of the parade.
Those wishing to participate in the parade need to fill out and return the parade registration to Mark Tyson at Borger High School. The registration form can be found at www.borgerisd.net/bhs/index.htm.
No unregistered floats or vehicles will be permitted to participate without registering. All registration forms are due to Tyson at BHS by Sept. 14, 2012, at 4 p.m. Registration may be faxed to 806-273-1036, emailed to mark.tyson@borgerisd.net or returned to the BHS office.
Upon arriving at the church, parade participants need to find the row and number in which they have been assigned and proceed to that spot. Several BHS volunteers will be on hand to assist if people have questions.
Parade participants must abide by the following rules:
•All drivers of a vehicle entry float must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide a copy of a valid Texas Drivers License along with their parade vehicle registration.
•All participants will provide a description of the vehicle, which will be driven in the parade. Motorcycles, four wheelers, and any kind of off-road vehicle will not be permitted.
•Parade entries must be structurally sound and safely designed. The main platform must have no holes or hollow areas where someone could fall through. All standing persons must have something on which to hold (i.e., a railing, pole, handle, etc.) or they must be seated at all times.
•The number of people riding in vehicles shall not exceed the number of people the vehicle is designed to carry (i.e., the number of seat belts in the car). Too many people riding in the car will result in the vehicle being deemed unsafe and will result in the elimination of the car unless revisions are made.
•No one will be permitted to ride on the roof or hood of a moving vehicle. (convertibles are exempt)
•All parade entries should take note of the parade route. Your vehicle must be able to make the required turns the route dictates.
•Any decorations or debris falling off the parade entries should be picked up by the organization and not left to litter city streets. This includes the church parking lot and Borger High School.
•Drivers must be aware of spectators and other parade entries. Parade entries must maintain appropriate distances (one car length) from the entry in front of them. Large gaps between entries can pose a safety hazard as well as following too closely.
•No vehicle in the parade shall stop en route to load or unload passengers.
•Any participants who violates city, county, or state ordinances or who creates a public safety hazard will be referred to the appropriate authorities.
•After registration has been received, you will contacted and assigned a number in which you line up. There will be BHS representatives to help guide parade participants to proper line up position at the church parking lot.
The Borger Bulldogs will face the Dumas Demons in the homecoming game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Bulldog Stadium. The introduction of princesses and homecoming candidates will take place Friday evening, along with the crowning of the Homecoming Queen.
