Arraignment for the Fernandez family will be on Tuesday November 1, 2011 at 4 p.m. on 205 E 5th Ave., Amarillo.
Amy Fernandez is being charged for the purpose of evading the reporting requirements and the regulations issued thereunder, structured, attempt to structure, and attempted to assist in structuring currency transactions with one or more domestic financial institutions, by purchasing 39 cashiers checks with United States currency in amounts of $3000 or less. Jose Fernandez, Jr., Francisco Fernandez, Aaron Fernandez, and Thomas Joseph Salazar were charged with knowingly and intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and/or five kilograms or more of cocaine in the Randall, Potter, and Hutchinson County areas. The five were taken into custody on October 27, 2011 and incarcerated in Randall County Jail.

Yes I do agree that it was about time that these individuals were removed from our streets. Just one question what took so long. I will tell you why because there are some citizens of our town that protected these people just like they continue to other drugs dealers. Some of these drug dealers are connected to some of our more prominent citizens of our town. People hide behind a facade of honesty and integrity while financially backing these drug dealers. This will continue until we stand up tell them no. No to there criminal activities. Everybody knows that there is a meth and crack dealer that lives over in the golf course addition, the sheriff's department has not raided his house not even once. Why not, maybe is because he is being protected by special interest here in Borger.

Every week in Hutchinson County, addicts plea guilty to various (generally nonviolent) crimes and go to the pen. To see these people deteriorate both physically and mentally is heartbreaking. Children are abused and neglected by addict parents and removed from their homes. If they are lucky, they will go to grandparent or other relative. If they aren't lucky, a group shelter or foster home with strangers. Can these addicts get clean and change their lives? Yes, of course. But it is the exception, not the rule. And it is a battle more difficult than most of us can even imagine.

ANYONE, be it rich business owner or street dealer, who profits from poisoning our fellow citizens should be punished to the full extent of the law.

I'm a firm believer in "innocent until proven guilty", and we don't have any convictions yet. Wonder if the chatter will change once the guilty pleas start rolling in...

It really makes me mad when people throw around scriptures out of the bible like (KJV) Luke 6:37..."Judge not, and ye shall not be judged." What did Jesus mean when he said, "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged"? (KJV Luke 6:37). He said this as a part of teaching about love and forgiveness. He tells us to love everyone, including our enemies, and that we should not judge them. We should forgive them.

First, we need to note that Jesus is talking about our personal relationships with other people. Our one-to-one relationships.

Second, we need read the entire BIble, not just one verse. Note that in the above verse Jesus is talking about loving and forgiving other people. He does not say we should love what they are doing (or saying). In the Bible there is a distinction between people, and their behavior.

The Bible also tells us there are things that we are supposed to hate -- sins.

Sins are behaviours and thoughts that separate us from God.

1 Corinthians 6:1-20

1Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?

2Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

3Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

As Christians we are to love the sinner, but hate the sin.

This means Christians are to be tolerant of others, but intolerant of sin. We are to love other people, and treat all other people with love, but that does not mean that we accept their sinful behavior. On the contrary, we are to detest and hate all sinful behavior and thoughts.

Judge behavior, not people: We now see that Jesus is telling us to not judge other people. This makes sense, we have no way to know someone else's thoughts or motives.

However, we do need to judge the behavior and speech of others.

For example: 2 Corinthians 6:14 tells us that we should not marry a non-Christian: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers". How can we tell if someone is a believer or unbeliever? We judge their behavior. James 2:14-26 shows us that we see another's faith through their behavior.

Another example: 1 Corinthians 5:1-8 tells us that if someone is an unrepentant sinner, that person should be "turned over to Satan" by excluding the sinner from Christian fellowship.

We should judge other's behavior: Throughout the Bible we see that we are to judge the behavior of others.

We should not punish: However, we are not--as Christans--to punish them. Punishment is to be left to the proper authorities (government) and God.

We should not support sin: On the other hand we should not support sinful behavior, nor should we protect people from the consequences of unrepentant sinful behavior.

Really ppl this is crazy!!!!! Known fact they drug dealers. they have hurt meny of ppl. we have two carpet places in town Franks and Carsons. One is fighting to keep the doors open and the other just a blooming...one drives an old pick up and the other driven hummers...hummmmm lets see in todays market and with todays economy...millions out of work...cant buy food for the table but can buy carpet?????? really..my house has been broken into by druggies to support there habbits... fact.. gun was stolen... fact... gun found in drug raid...fact...are they the big fish no...they just the middle guys....look for the 78 year old with dimonds on all fingers....are they guilty YES...do i know for fact YES...do i have right to judge YES...Should they rot in hell..NO..cuz hell would be to good for them after what they have done to my two sons...YES i know for fact what they are ...what they do...Stand behind them all you want i just wish i could stand in the front row of a firring squad to end there evil ways...judge me not till you have had to live with what they had done to my children.

30 something checks,within a month, three different banks, bought with money brought into the bank in gallon sized plastic bags, smelling of chemicals, with said statement "make sure to keep this under the reporting amount" i.e. 3000$ is not legit to me in any way shape form or fashion (no pun intended).....if she wasn't hiding something....why didn't she do it the "legal" way? I have owned a business.....i didn't do business like that....so....really you can say what you want but i'm going with the facts stated in the report and that was def. not legal.

Someone needs to have the Borger Police Department and county officials looked into after knowing this kind of activity was going on. Why in the world did they let it go on for a year. The definition of a news paper is the publication, usually issued daily or weekly, containing current news, editorials, feature articles, and usually advertising. The Fernandez family Drug Bust fits into this description. It is news, so the local news paper is doing their job. Even if they were not it is plastered all over the news on TV. I am super excited that they finally got busted. Anything done in excess will come to light. It just took longer for the Fernandez family to get caught than most. I rather not have drug money infusing back into the community. The Fernandez lived a very lavish lifestyle & became way too greedy. They affected a lot of life's both negatively & positively. I am so thankful that they got caught before they ruined my grandchildren lives. I know for a fact that there are a lot of addicts around, because of their selfishness & greed. If found guilty which I don’t know how they would not be, since they are not in Hutchinson County I hope they rot in jail. I am blown away that anyone would take up for them except for those who they where supplying one way or another.

The affected a lot of people positively? Really? The only thing this family did was destroy their community. They ruined many many lives. That is was cocaine and meth do. Look up anyone in Borger, in one way or another, we all have dirt on us. EVEN YOU! The way I see it, there will always be crack heads and meth heads, so there will always be drug dealers. After reading all of the comments on the News Herald website and all over facebook, it seems to be that everyone only posts how great it is that they got caught or how sad it is that they did. Not one comment that I have read has gone to the extent as to be rational and understand both points. Yes, we all have known for a long time what has been going on but it is not our place to air someone's dirty laundry. If it was such an inconvenience when it was going on then someone should have said something then, not now, and especially not over a public forum. Even though the Fernandez family has done all of this and it has been posted for all to see doesn't mean that us as citizens have any reason to say they are guilty. If that is your opinion, that is absolutely fine, but you do have to realize that nobody will effect the courts decisions in finding them guilty or not. Anyone who commits a crime knows the consequences of their actions, and shouldn't be so naive when it's time to pay for it. Sure, they've had a "good run" but obviously it was not going to last forever. Yes, the children and the innocent or wrongly accused are going to suffer from this. That is their mom, dad, uncle, brother, and family....How would you feel? All of the family and friends knew everything that was happening so to say that it is a shame or try to keep it covered as long as they can is actually pretty ridiculous. You know what you were doing and you knew the consequences so stop trying to act like you did nothing wrong. But like I said....It is always smart to realize that there are two sides to this and you should discuss it adequately and rationally instead of blaming or criticizing, or even trying to cover up what has already been proven by the evidence, now all there is to do is wait for the trials and let the people see for themselves.

I don't normally comment on things, but this is really getting out of hand. What happened to Innocent until proven Guilty? I'm not saying they are guilty or innocent, just let the legal system try these people. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!!! I also have the right to live in a town that is free of drug dealers and rapists.....i have the right to know what is going on in my home town, and with the people that have also come into my home and installed carpet....i have the right to say whatever i want.....read the court documents released.....they have evidence. Had they been doing it legally then explain the 30something cashiers checks Amy got in a month....and then sent her son in to do it too?????? Our four fathers build a foundation for this counrty. A very stronge one but it has come to the attention of meny that this foundation has not been supported over the meny of years...Part of this foundation is what is called the constitution.In the constitution is the ammendments of the Bill Of Rights. In the bill of rights it state.. We have the right to freedom of the press, freedom of speach,freedom to a speedy trial And the right to have a jury of of peers.
As i have been reading all the comments written here i see that none of you know your Constitution or your Bill Of Rights..
The Borger News Herald has the right to put the DRUG BUST on the front page of the paper. They have the right to report the news of this town. To the people of this town
You have the Right of Freedom of speach to give your oppinion if it is possitive or negative it does not matter.
The people invovled have the Right to a speedy trail. So that would mean that the Borger PD and the other goverment agencies had taken the time to get all the information to properly charge these people so they could have a speedy trial. And in the Bill of Rights the have the right to a jury of there peers. And untill they choose or not choose to have a jury trial cant really say much on that.
I am very happy the BORGER NEWS HERALD reported this news and will continue to do such, on this familey and others involved. I stand behind you Borger News Herald... Keep up with the great work.
I personally only wish that the Borger News Herald would have put pictures of all nine charged so i could watch for them in my area so I could keep my home and familey and neighbors safe from these people.

I am not a bit surprised by any of this, i feel awful for the children involved and other family members that are innocent. I liked all in the family but Amy and must say i am a bit giddy everytime i see her mugshot......my daughter went into her store one day with enough money to buy herself three pairs of miss me jeans and some tops, and Amy quickly screamed at her "this is not for kids......GET OUT OF HERE"....she used to be quite the snob...however now most know her booboo don't smell like roses! Personally, I am happy about the bust. BPD spends too much manpower trying to catch the users when the big time drug suppliers are right there on MAIN STREET! I hope this bust has a positive impact on the city of Borger by possibly gaining some productive citizens. Maybe if they can't find drugs, they will look for a job.

I am curious what other illegal activities will be discovered in this investigation. It is a known fact that the Fernandez family used their money to lure young (adult) girls into engaging in (sometimes forced) sex acts and/or pornography. They were very loose about who they would approach for these things. I understand that prostitution work both ways, but the Fernandez family and their drug money aided to these acts in a sufficient way. I suppose this is what happens when fast money lands in the hands of people who were born without common morals.

Someone commented earlier on the "rumor mill". Where you err, sir or madam, is assuming that nobody has any facts here. Well, with most every rumor comes a little bit of fact. You (and the Borger PD) would have to be fools (or paid off) to not see what they were doing. I for one am glad the scumbags are in jail. Jealousy, as you suggested, has nothing to do with it. I am not jealous of possessions paid for with ill gotten gains. I personally lost a friend to meth. Nobody held a gun to his head and made him take it, so he is not guilt free. This case won't go to trial...the investigation occurred over a one year period, involving undercover agents and wire taps. It won't be hard to show that the "books" for their businesses were used as fronts to launder money in attempt to account for the income they spent on their lifestyles. The Fernandez's have already turned on each other, as well as extended family members and associates, and each will seek a plea bargain! They lived the "high life", but didn't get there by honest means! Hey, there should be some nice cars and real estate available for auction once these cases adjudicated! :)

To report that these god-fearing Borger residents were allegedly in possession of 50+ grams of methamphetamine and/or 5+ kilograms (yes, kilograms) is just plain rude.
