The Borger Bulldog 9th grade and JV teams both fared very well in their own tournament.
The 9th grade boys played Dumas in the championship game after soundly beating Spearman and River Road in previous games. They found themselves down by as much as 11 in the first half, but cut that lead to 4 at halftime. Borger came out on fire and briefly took the lead in the third quarter.
Dumas proved to be too much in the fourth, though, and Dumas took the championship 54-37.
The Bulldog JV looked strong throughout the tournament.
They easily beat West Texas, Gruver, Spearman, and Dumas to go undefeated in tournament play. They continue to be very successful on the season.
The Borger JV girls finished in 4th place in the very large River Road tournament on Saturday.
The Borger Varsity girls competed in the Alvord tournament. The only score reported as of press time was a 63-22 loss to Alvord on Friday.
The Fritch Varsity teams continued play in the Greenbelt Classic in Clarendon. Both teams lost to Clarendon late Friday night. The boys lost 89-33 with Reynolds and Blakely both having 10 points. The girls lost in a heartbreaker, 50-47, only their third loss on the year. Setliff led with 20 points, and Ingersoll had 8.
The Frank Phillips Plainsmen (10-4) beat Wayland Baptist JV 120-72 late Friday. Taquan McDew led all scorers with 36. Jordan Whelan added 22 of his own, while Ronald Scott had 17 points, 11 assists, and 5 steals for FPC.
