If you have ever thought about becoming a member of the Hutchinson County 4-H, there is a chance coming up next week to do just that!
The Hutchinson County 4-H council will host a 4-H Member Enrollment Night on Oct. 9, 2012. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Borger ISD Administration Building Auditorium, located at 200 East Ninth in Borger.
County extension agent Megan Parr said at this event, students will be able to enroll as new 4-H members online. The students will also have an opportunity to participate in several leadership skill building games.
Hutchinson County 4-H is open to all Hutchinson County youth who are nine years old (or eight and in third grade) through 19. Youth enrolled in kindergarten through second grade can participate in non-competitive events and specific project meetings. Parents are also encouraged to get involved.
“Mom and Dad are not excluded either!” Parr said. “4-H strives to promote family togetherness and could always good parent leaders.”
4-H youth in Hutchinson County have the chance to participate in organized projects with learning opportunities. These projects range from the traditional livestock and food and nutrition, to the non-traditional photography, shooting sports, consumer decision making, and clothing and textiles. However, Parr said the opportunities do not stop there.
“Because 4-H is all about learning, anything that can help a child learn leadership, citizenship, or other life skills can be designed as a 4-H project, just contact the county extension office for assistance in designing your 4-H plan,” she said.
The 4-H council highly encourages any area student that has an interest in becoming a new 4-H member to join it for this kick-off event. For further info, contact the Hutchinson County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office at (806) 878-4026.
