Borger High School
Prior to his arrival in 2009, the Borger Bulldog football team had endured a couple of hard years on the field and was a football program that had not seen a district title since 1981.
Under the leadership of Rusty Purser, the Borger Bulldogs improved greatly on the field, which includes earning a share of the 1-3A District title in 2009, followed by claiming the title outright this season with a perfect 3-0 mark in district play.
For the second season in a row, Purser led the Bulldogs into the 3A playoffs, where the team claimed Bi-District and Area Round titles by defeating Shallowater and Seminole.
The Bulldogs season would end in the Regional Round against Brownwood, the top-ranked team in the state of Texas at the time.
After using a spread-style offense in 2009, Purser and his staff did a good job adapting to the type of persnonel they had going into the 2010 season by developing an offense that took advantage of a solid and experienced offensive line and a good group of running backs to become one of the best running teams in West Texas for the 2010 season.
Purser and his staff also used the experience and talent on the other side of the football to lead a defensive unit that gave up an average of just eight points a game through District 1-3A play.
The Bulldogs 2010 record was 7-5 and Purser’s record in his two years at Borger is now 14-9.
