Lady Dogs open district with a tough loss; JV and Freshmen victorious

January 9, 2013

It was a battle to the finish in the Lady Bulldogs' district opener against Dalhart. In a very physical contest, the Lady Wolves prevailed, 57-48.
Dalhart scored the first 8 points, holding Borger scoreless for almost three minutes with a tough press break. Prater puts Borger on the board, scoring their first four points. Francis also hits a jumper for Borger. Wood was great on the boards all night, and her first two came from an offensive rebound and a put back. Gillum would go coast-to-coast to lay in another two for the Lady Dogs, and they end the first down 19-11.

Sports stories of 2012: What caught your attention?

January 2, 2013

As 2012 draws to a close, many are happy to see it go. There were many ugly stories in the sports world this year, and many are ranking the Penn State scandal the biggest news story of the year. There were also positive stories (which I like to focus on), many of which emerged from the 2012 London Olympics this summer.

He led the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with 1,158 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

The Herd too much for Borger

December 27, 2012

Borger hosted the Herd from Hereford in a Friday night showdown. Turnovers were a key stat in both games, as both Borger teams finished with over 30 in their respective games.
The Varsity Lady Bulldogs took almost four minutes off the clock before they scored their first field goal, a fast break lay-up by Lawson. N. Embers has a steal which leads to two for her, and Lawson drives in for another two. Gillum sinks two free throws for Borger, and they are down 16-8 after the first quarter.

The Sanford Fritch teams met up with White Deer for the second time this season. The first round was a wild one, and the second matchup did not disappoint either. Both games were very physical, and a total of five technicals were called between the two games.
The Lady Eagles won the first contest between these teams easily, and did so again on Tuesday night. Fritch ended the 1st quarter with a three pointer from Meek at the buzzer to go up 21-6, and ended the half up 29-13.

Falcons too much for Bulldogs

December 17, 2012

urnovers were the story of the night for the Borger teams, who all fell to the Bushland Falcons on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start, trading turnovers with Bushland. There was no scoring nearly three minutes into the game, when Prater and Urquidi had a field goal a piece. N. Embers scored the next four, and Loftis played aggressive defense and came up with a steal. N. Embers hits another three, and the Lady Dogs were enjoying an 11-5 lead. Bushland fought back in it and hit another three of their own to go up 12-11 after one quarter.
