Youth movement taking place within the Bulldog Wrestling Program

Just two years ago, Borger Wrestling Head Coach Antonio Murga was enjoying the luxury of having an experienced squad that could match up well against any team in the region and had six wrestlers qualify for the state tournament.
However, over the last two years those state wrestlers have moved on, and now Murga finds himself leading a young group of wrestlers for the 2011-12 season.

Sanford-Fritch rallies to beat Borger 45-40

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles made the short trip to Borger to take on the Borger Lady Bulldogs in a Hutchinson County Showdown at Tex Hanna Gym.
Through the end of the first three periods, the Lady Bulldogs maintained the lead. But the Lady Eagles took advantage of Lady Bulldog turnovers and foul trouble to go on a 14-2 run in the fourth period to rally back and get the 45-40 win.
Lady Eagle sophomore Mikala Setliff led the charge in the fourth period, scoring 13 of her 15 points in the final period that included going 6/6 from the free throw line.

County Hoops Roundup: FPC wins two, Comanches defeat McLean

On Tuesday evening, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen, along with the West Texas High Comanches, went into the Thanksgiving holiday with wins.

At the BCAC, the Lady Plainsmen opened the game on a 16-5 run on their way to defeating LCU JV 75-41 to improve to 5-4 for the season.
The Lady Plainsmen had five players reach double figures led by Kinjita Kelley with 14, followed by Laura Martinez with 12 and Shardena Hudson, La’Christa Nash, and Destiny Phillips each scoring 10.

Bulldogs defeat Dimmitt 55-51

On Monday evening, the Borger Bulldogs traveled to Canyon to take on the Dimmitt Bobcats at the West Texas A&M Event Center.
The Bulldogs trailed by one point after the first period, but were able to finish strong and hung on for the 55-51 win.
After dealing with an eye injury last week, Borger junior Jamon Hearon had a big game scoring 21 points that included nailing four three pointers.
Senior Grant Boren also was hot behind the three point line where he hit three and had 11 points for the game.

Comanches win over White Deer in hardwood action

The West Texas Comanches won a very physical contest over the White Deer Bucks in Stinnett last night 44-35. Two Comanches fouled out and a couple more were in foul trouble.
The Comanches got on the board first with a sweet shot up the gut by Nathan Forrest. White Deer made the next six to take a 6-2 lead. Ty Lay hit 2-2 at the free throw line and Alex Ramirez had back to back steals and buckets to give WT an 8-6 edge with 4:00 left in the first. Chase Elliott hit 1-2 at the line and Spencer St. Charles was 2-2. The Tribe led 11-6 after one.

Lady Comanches down White Deer in hoop action

The West Texas Lady Comanches trailed the Does from White Deer briefly last night, but after trailing 4-0, they tied it, then took the lead, and never looked back. White Deer rallied in the third quarter and tied the score at 26, but never gained enough momentum to take the lead from WT.
With the score tied at six, Abby Rios made a nice little pass to Natalie Franklin for two. Franklin popped the net with a three to put the Lady Comanches up 9-8. Erin Summers hit the back end of two free throws to give WT ten, and they led 10-8 after one.

Apaches hold off the FPC Lady Plainsmen 70-59

On Monday evening, the Cochise College Apaches from Arizona took advantage of 16 first half turnovers committed by the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen to build a double digit lead going into halftime in their 70-59 win at the BCAC.
Shardena Hudson and Destiny Phillips combined for 29 points for the Lady Plainsmen. However, as a team the Lady Plainsmen shot only 40% for the game, including connecting on just 9 of 27 shots in the first half.
The Lady Plainsmen got off to a fast start to build a 16-6 lead by the 14:12 mark in the first half.

Quanah tops Borger 51-30

On Monday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs could not overcome a slow start in their 51-30 loss to Quanah on the road.
In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs only managed to score 10 points, allowing Quanah to build a 27-10 lead at halftime.
Quanah was led by Taylor Newsom and Jodi Finnerty who each had 15 points.
Nellie Embers led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points, followed by Katie Sizemore and Vanessa Jones each have four points.
The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 3-4 on the season.

Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen play home opener tonight

Tonight the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen will play their home opener against Cochise College beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the BCAC.
The game with Cochise will begin a two game home stand for the Lady Plainsmen, who will host Lubbock Christian University JV tomorrow evening beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The Plainsmen enter tonight with a 4-3 record coming off losses to Hutchinson Community College 101-67 and Seward County Community College 71-50 in Liberal, KS. over the weekend.

Cisco overpowers Sanford-Fritch in Area playoff

On Saturday evening, the undefeated Cisco Lobos used a 21-0 run in the second quarter to pull away for the 61-28 win over Sanford-Fritch Eagles at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
The two teams combined for over 800 yards of offense, including Eagles junior running back Colton Valle rushing for 259 yards and three touchdowns,
Trailing 7-6 after the first quarter, the Lobos took control of the game with three straight scores, taking a 27-7 lead into the locker room at the break.
