Borger High School
Prior to his arrival in 2009, the Borger Bulldog football team had endured a couple of hard years on the field and was a football program that had not seen a district title since 1981.
Under the leadership of Rusty Purser, the Borger Bulldogs improved greatly on the field, which includes earning a share of the 1-3A District title in 2009, followed by claiming the title outright this season with a perfect 3-0 mark in district play.
PLAINVIEW-In three different innings, the Borger Bulldogs loaded the bases with opportunities to have big innings, but the team managed to get just one run across home plate through five innings of play.
But in the other dugout, the Lubbock Cooper Pirates used a big fourth inning to score nine runs on their way to defeating Borger 12-1 in game one of the best-of-three 3A Regional Quarterfinal Playoff Series at Wayland Baptist in Plainview.
On Thursday afternoon Borger High School senior soccer player Hannah Blakely signed a letter of intent to play colleigate soccer at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.
A four-year letterman for the Lady Bulldogs, the 2011 team captain has established herself the past couple of years as one of the best high school girl soccer players in West Texas.

Winning the 2010-11 Fighting Comanche award was senior Logan Hoff, while winning the 2010-11 Fighting Lady Comanche award were seniors Erin Frost and Maci Forrest.
Receiving the National Scholar Athlete Award were Maci Forrest and senior Terrence Bonds.
Hoff was recognized for being named as one of the Amarillo Globe News Scholar Athletes of the Year.
A ranking of ninth in the state to go along with a 30-5 record typically would cause an intimidation factor going into a playoff series for the opposing team.
That could have been the case in Plainview this week, as the mentioned high ranking and great record belongs to the Lubbock Cooper Pirates, the Borger Bulldogsâ€™ opponent in this weekendâ€™s best of three 3A Regional Quarterfinal series.
New Frank Phillips College Volleyball Coach Ashley Dyer continues to build her 2011 squad, welcoming Alexis Fritz to the Lady Plainsman roster.
Ms. Fritz is a 5' 7" setter from Klein High School, where she was a three- year starter for the Bearkats. She earned District 13-5A Honorable Mention honors her senior year, and participated in the Junior Olympics as a sophomore.
Local area student continue to enjoy the fruits of their success in the athletic field and classroom by earning various awards for what they have done this school year.
Fresh off winning the 3A State Mixed-Doubles title with his sister Abbie in Austin last week, Borger High School senior Josh Madden was named to the 3A All-State Academic Tennis Team. J.Madden will graduate as salutatorian from Borger High School.
Wednesday morning, Borger High School junior Abbie Madden was announced as Female Athlete of the Year in Tennis by the Amarillo Globe News.
With school wrapping up in the next two weeks, several of the area coaches are busy making plans for their athletic summer camps to help younger student-athletics learn the basics of various sports.
More athletic camps will be announced throughout the summer from the different local high schools and Frank Phillips College.
The Borger Baseball Summer Camp is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 6th through Thursday, June 9th at Huber Park Baseball Field.
The Borger Bulldogs will take on the Lubbock Cooper Pirates in a best of three series this weekend in the 3A Regional Quarterfinals.
All three games will be played at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview with game one starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
Game two will start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday followed by game three if necessary.
Monday evening Sanford-Fritch coaches, athletes and family gathered at Dakeâ€™s Restaurant in Borger to look back on the spring semester in Eagles and Lady Eagles athletics.
The coaches spent time talking about the ups and downs their teams faced over the season but credited the student athletes for their continued hard work and dedication to the various programs.
