2011 Lady Bulldogs are young but talented

August 8, 2011

Entering the 2011 season, the Borger Lady Bulldog volleyball team returns four players off last year’s regional semi-final team. For many programs, the loss of so many players would lead to a rebuilding phase as younger players adjust to the varsity level. However for the Lady Bulldogs, a good amount of talent is coming up the pipeline which should form a team able to make a playoff run come October.
In 2010, the Lady Bulldogs reached the 3A Regional Semi-Finals for the second time in five years setting the tone for a good off-season.

Lady Comanches expect to stay strong under new leadership

August 8, 2011

After dropping classifications in 2008, the West Texas Lady Comanches have established themselves as arguably the best 1A volleyball program in the Texas Panhandle and are poised to maintain that status in 2011.
During the 2010 season, the Lady Comanches went undefeated in district play. With the team graduating one senior from that squad, the expectations are for the team to challenge for another District 5-1A title and make a run in the playoffs.

Volleyball two-a-days in full swing

August 6, 2011

There is no question football is king throughout the State of Texas. But in the Texas Panhandle, volleyball has established itself as the queen of the sports world, due to the playoff success of teams from Amarillo High, Randall, Bushland, Dumas, Hereford, Canyon, Pampa, Dalhart and our hometown Borger Lady Bulldogs.
While the high school boys were busy getting two-a-days started on the football practice field this week, high school girls have been working as hard in the gym preparing for the 2011 volleyball season.

Fritch family helps find retired athletes good homes

August 1, 2011

The life of a racing greyhound is centered around training and racing around the track until it finally reaches the point it can no longer compete as a top athlete.
When that happens, the question becomes where do the greyhounds go and how are they placed into a good loving environment to live out the rest of their lives?
Lonnie and Marian Jones of Fritch play a big role in answering that question for several former racing greyhounds by serving as the West Texas representatives for the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT).

Few changes in Local Coaching Staffs

July 26, 2011

Anyone who has worked in the education al system knows the area that probably sees the biggest turnover from year to year is in the members of a school district’s coaching staff.
The reason for the turnover is not always related to negative results on the playing field but many times is due to issues such as coaches just deciding to focus on teaching, going into school administration or exploring new opportunities in a different career field.
