The Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball team had a busy weekend competing in eight games over three days at the Murray State Festival in Tishomingo, Okla.
Over the three days, the Lady Plainsmen posted a 3-5 record.

The Lady Plainsmen bested Rose State College 5-1 in seven innings on Friday as Janelle Smith hit a home run and drove in two runners.
Ashley Abair was a workhorse on the rubber, pitching seven innings and allowed no earned runs, four hits and no walks while striking out five.

AMARILLO-On day one of the Cavalier Classic Baseball Tournament, the Borger Bulldogs saw mixed results on the field by coming way with a big 12-2 win over the Arbor Academy Lions, but struggling in their 10-5 loss to the Amarillo Palo Duro Dons.

After the Lions took a 0-1 lead in the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs took advantage of Lion pitching woes and errors to score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning,
Colton Hunter and Clay Ellis reached base on singles and would come across home plate on two wild pitches to make it a 2-1 score.
On day one of the Sanford-Fritch â€śDucks on the Pondâ€ť Softball Tournament, the Borger Lady Bulldogs and West Texas High Lady Comanches won their opening round games setting up a Hutchinson County Showdown in the semi-finals for Friday at 1:00 p.m..
The two teams got their wins in different fashion, as the Lady Bulldogs had no problems beating the Claude Lady Mustangs 15-0 in three innings, while the Lady Comanches squeaked out a 10-9 win over the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles Black squad.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Dumas Demons scored 18 runs in the final three innings to get a 21-6 win over the Borger Bulldogs in the 2012 season opener at Huber Park.
The mixture of six errors and nine walks, to go along with 16 Demon hits, proved to be a costly combination for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs got off to a solid start in the first inning, with senior pitcher Garth Payton striking out all three batters in the top of the inning. Ben Sharp gave Borger a 1-0 on fielderâ€™s choice in the bottom of the first inning.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get the comeback win over the Garden City Community College Roughriders, 7-5.
The Roughriders started the game with Desmond Roberts hitting a lead-off triple followed by Brad Michaleski hitting an RBI single to make it a 0-1 score.
The Roughriders added one more run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Zac Baldini to give them a 0-2 lead.
On Monday night, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen opened their game with the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Broncos building a 16-2 lead by the 15:10 mark. But shooting woes and losing the rebound battle, in the final 12 minutes of the first half, allowed NMMI to comeback to take the lead and force the Plainsmen to play catch up throughout the second half, as NMMI got the 99-88 win in WJCAC play.
There are some teams in basketball who live or die by the three point shot and on Monday evening the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen were a team that was playing with that mindset. At the BCAC, Lady Plainsmen was a team who used the three point shot to carry them to an 84-64 win over the Clarendon College Lady Bulldogs in non-conference action.
The Lady Plainsmen were an on fire team from outside nailing 16 three-pointers in the game, including 11 in the first half.
The Clarendon College Bulldog Basketball Teams are making a return to compete in the toughest junior college conference in the nation next year.
â€śAfter approval from the National Junior College Athletic Association as well as the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, and with final approval from the Clarendon College Board of Regents, the basketball programs will move to NJCAA Division I competition starting next year,â€ť CC Athletic Director John Green said. â€śI am thrilled we are making this move back into DI status.â€ť
Tonight the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen will hit the basketball court at the BCAC for a doubleheader. The Lady Plainsmen will host Clarendon College at 5:30 p.m. The Plainsmen will host NMMI in WJCAC action at 7:30 p.m.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Borger Bulldogs officially begin the 2012 baseball season by hosting the Dumas Demons beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Huber Park.
The Bulldogs enter the season coming off an impressive 2011 campaign, where the team won the District 1-3A title and advanced to the Regional-Quarterfinals where they fell to Lubbock Cooper.
The Bulldogs lost several big bats and pitching arms from last yearâ€™s team, but the cupboard is not bare for Bulldog Head Coach Steve Ribera, who is entering his second year as the teamâ€™s head coach.
