2010 district champions square off in season opener

Tomorrow night officially kicks off the 2011 football season and one of the best match-ups in the Texas Panhandle will take place at Bulldog Stadium. The Canyon Randall Raiders are visiting town to take on the Bulldogs.
Both teams are coming off impressive 2010 campaigns which saw both claiming district titles and advancing three rounds into the playoffs.
Another similarity the teams share is replacing several seniors. However, both programs have good talent coming up that should allow both teams to contend for district titles again.

Hackett adds three late signings to 2011-12 roster

Frank Phillips College Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Hackett announced the signing of three more players before the fall semester got underway.
All three players give the Plainsmen depth underneath the basket and are expected to make an immediate impact in the upcoming season.
The three new players are 6’8 center Demetris Lafontant of Kissimmee, Fla.; 6’7 forward Patrick Elledge of Pearland; and 6’5 forward Kris Harris of Clinton, Md.

Lady Bulldogs swat Lady Hornets in straight sets

Just three days separated the last time the Borger Lady Bulldogs and the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets met on the volleyball court. The Tuesday match meant the two teams would be fresh on each other’s minds.
On Saturday, the Lady Hornets got the upper hand by defeating the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets in the semifinals of the Sanford-Fritch Tournament before going on to win the tournament.
Fortunately, the Lady Bulldogs came out as the more aggressive team on Tuesday, getting the win in straight sets 25-19, 25-23, 25-17.

Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles handled Holy Cross

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles came out playing with the momentum from winning second place this past weekend in the Sanford-Fritch Tournament to defeat Holy Cross.
The Lady Eagles had strong serving and solid hits from seniors Summer Tubbs, Jacy Judd, Mariah Cumings and Mandi West.
The Lady Eagles swept Holy Cross in three games by scores of 25-11, 25-17, 25-15.
Hopefully, the ladies will continue to work hard and play as a team. A rematch with Borger set for Saturday and will definitely be a good Hutchinson County battle.

Highland Park wins Sanford-Fritch Volleyball Tournament

The Borger Lady Bulldogs appeared to be on their way to taking home the Sanford-Fritch Volleyball Tournament title by being the one team to go undefeated in pool play on Friday.
However, it would be the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets that caught on fire during bracket play on Saturday, taking the tournament title by upsetting Borger in the semi-finals and beating Sanford-Fritch in the championship match.
Borger opened Saturday’s play with a bye before squaring off with district foes Perryton for the second time in the tournament.

Borger Freshmen take fourth place in River Road Tournament

Last weekend, the Borger Lady Bulldogs Freshmen volleyball team came in fourth place at the Amarillo River Road Tournament.
Last Friday, the girls won their first three matches to put them in the Gold Bracket on Saturday.
In bracket play, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Bushland and Pampa to take fourth place.

County teams taking part in Sanford-Fritch Volleyball Tournament

This weekend all three Hutchinson County high schools will be a part of the nine team field in the 2011 Sanford-Fritch Volleyball Tournament.
The tournament gets underway Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. with pool play, followed by bracket play starting around 3:30 p.m. and continuing on Saturday at Sanford-Fritch High School.
Pool A will consist of Sanford-Fritch, Borger, Memphis, Perryton and Childress. Pool B will have teams from West Texas High, Amarillo Highland Park, Ft. Elliott and Amarillo Holy Cross.

Lady Bulldogs brand the Herd and Cats with losses

In past several years the Borger Lady Bulldogs have taken part in a triangular with the Hereford Lady Whitefaces and the Amarillo River Road Wildcats in Amarillo. In the triangular, the Lady Bulldogs historically left Amarillo getting a win over River Road, while having a sense of a moral victory if they were able to play Hereford tough, despite getting the loss in the match.
Last night history changed as the Lady Bulldogs left River Road High School as the “Queens of the Triangular” beating both Hereford and River Road in straight sets due to a great team effort throughout the evening.

Lady Eagles win thriller over Friona

The Sanford Fritch Lady Eagles, sporting new black uniforms, came out Tuesday against the Friona Squaws giving everything they could to win. Leading to a hard fought win for the Lady Eagles in five games.
Game one went to Friona due to slow start and serving errors for Sanford-Fritch 17-25.
In game two and three, the Lady Eagles took charge and had great serving from senior Jacy Judd to win both by 25-18 scores.
Game four was a close, back and forth battle, but the Lady Eagles fell to Friona 19-25.

Frank Phillips College name Lay as new baseball coach

August 16, 2011

On Monday, Frank Phillips College President Dr. Jud Hicks told the FPC Board of Regents that Kurtis Lay has been hired as the new Plainsmen Baseball Coach.
The head coaching position for the Plainsmen came open in late July after Jared Gaston resigned in order to be closer to his family in Tennessee.
Gaston served as head coach for the Plainsmen just one season, posting a 19-29 overall record and finishing in seventh place in the WJCAC.
