In the first two weeks of the season, the West Texas High Comanches have been one of the most dominant teams in the Texas Panhandle by outscoring their opponents 83-6.
In the win over Shamrock last Friday, the Comanchesâ€™ defense completely shut down the Irish by giving up only had two yards of total offense in the game.
West Texas High Head Coach Keith Hardin has been pleased with the defense, saying, â€śSo far our play on that side of the ball has been outstanding. Our defense line has been dominant and that has allowed our linebackers to make plays.â€ť
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles travel north to take on the Stratford Elks looking for their first win of the 2011 season.
For the second year in a row, the Eagles find themselves in the middle of one of the toughest non-district schedules in the Texas Panhandle.
Last week in Sunray, the Eagles struggled in the second half in their 47-24 loss to the Bobcats.
Back in June, 31 local youth bowlers traveled to Dallas to take part in the state bowling tournament. Several of the bowlers made great showings including five taking first place in their divisions.

Over the weekend, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen improved to 6-2 on the season after posting a 3-1 record at the Redlands CC Volleyball Tournament in El Reno, Okla.
On Friday, the Lady Plainsmen opened the tournament defeating Oklahoma Baptist University JV in straight sets 25-16, 26-24, 25-22. In their final match on Friday, the Lady Plainsmen fell to Seminole State 12-25, 22-25, 22-25.
Just as West Texas Comanche football fans were celebrating a 48-0 halftime lead, they were also reminded of how dangerous the game of football really is. Shamrock quarterback, Tyler Whiteley was airlifted from the field after being knocked unconscious just before the half. Reports from friends after the game say he has a concussion but should recover. Both teams were a little flat after the half.
SUNRAY-On Friday night, the Sunray Bobcats used three second half touchdowns to pull away for the 47-24 win over the Sanford-Fritch Eagles.
After a Colton Valle touchdown run for the Eagles at the 8:55 mark of the third quarter, the Eagles offense struggled to get much going into the second half, while the Bobcatsâ€™ running game controlled the clock.
Bobcatsâ€™ senior quarterback Talon Dooley had a big night connecting 11 of 18 passed for one touchdown and rushing for 141 yards that included a 98 yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Last Friday, the 2011 season did not start as planned for the Borger Bulldogs in the 35-7 loss to the Randall Raiders.
Three first half turnovers, along with the solid play be Randallâ€™s quarterback Collin Bowen, placed the Bulldogs into a 28-7 hole by halftime in the Raiders win.
This week, high school volleyball teams will have been on the court for a month. For the Hutchinson County teams, August has seen its shares of ups and downs. However, all three teams are poised to go into district play looking good and ready compete for a playoff berth.
Since the sluggish start to the season against Bushland and Canyon, the Borger Lady Bulldogs have looked good on the court in sweeps Hereford, Amarillo River Road, Amarillo Highland Park, Perryton, West Texas High and Sanford-Fritch.

For kids and teens, the bowling alleyâ€™s youth mixed league will once again run on Saturday mornings.
