BHS senior Ben Sharp receives great honor

December 19, 2012

The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the United States Marine Corp proudly announce the THSCA Academic All-State football team for 2012-13. The team is selected by a point system that awards points for GPA, class rank, and SAT or ACT score. The student/athletes are then placed on a team according to the number of points they have earned.
Borger High School senior, Ben Sharp, has been recognized by the state for his performance on the field and in the classroom. Sharp was selected to the Elite THSCA Academic All-State football team, the state's highest honor.

Eagles dominate White Deer in rematch

December 19, 2012

The Sanford Fritch teams met up with White Deer for the second time this season. The first round was a wild one, and the second matchup did not disappoint either. Both games were very physical, and a total of five technicals were called between the two games.
The Lady Eagles won the first contest between these teams easily, and did so again on Tuesday night. Fritch ended the 1st quarter with a three pointer from Meek at the buzzer to go up 21-6, and ended the half up 29-13.

Falcons too much for Bulldogs

December 17, 2012

urnovers were the story of the night for the Borger teams, who all fell to the Bushland Falcons on Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start, trading turnovers with Bushland. There was no scoring nearly three minutes into the game, when Prater and Urquidi had a field goal a piece. N. Embers scored the next four, and Loftis played aggressive defense and came up with a steal. N. Embers hits another three, and the Lady Dogs were enjoying an 11-5 lead. Bushland fought back in it and hit another three of their own to go up 12-11 after one quarter.

Sanford-Fritch teams victorious in White Deer

December 12, 2012

The Lady Eagles have a winning record this year, and that was not about to stop in White Deer.
The ladies got off to a hot start with a three from Meek and four points from White and went up 9-0 quickly. Setliff also completes a nice three point play for Fritch.
Four minutes passed in the first before White Deer scored, a testament to the Lady Eagles' tough defense. White Deer committed many frustration fouls, and the Lady Eagles were already in the free throw shooting bonus with a minute left in the first. Fritch leads 19-10 after one.

Area weekend basketball action

December 10, 2012

The Borger Bulldog 9th grade and JV teams both fared very well in their own tournament.
The 9th grade boys played Dumas in the championship game after soundly beating Spearman and River Road in previous games. They found themselves down by as much as 11 in the first half, but cut that lead to 4 at halftime. Borger came out on fire and briefly took the lead in the third quarter.
Dumas proved to be too much in the fourth, though, and Dumas took the championship 54-37.
The Bulldog JV looked strong throughout the tournament.

Disc golf tournament a success

December 10, 2012

The tournament held at Johnson Park last weekend was a good time for all.
There were 30 entries in this years' tournament, with winners getting a cash payout. They were also treated to a free brisket lunch, which I can attest was outstanding.
Annadon Keys, the supervisor at the park, commented, “The disc golf players are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. They came from Borger, Amarillo, Lubbock, Pampa, Childress, White Deer, Wichita Falls, and Clovis this year to compete on our course.”

November 27, 2012

The Sanford-Fritch Eagles were the lone county team still active in playoff action this weekend. They played Colorado City in Plainview on Saturday afternoon in the 2A Division II area game. They lost in heartbreaking fashion, 21-19, in a game that went down to the wire.
Junior Andrew Reynolds started things out right for the Eagles as he returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for the score.
