Last week’s Borger City Council meeting turned out to be more of an educational experience than I expected. It opened my eyes to new information of which I wasn’t aware, and made me want to do all I can to help a particular cause.
In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, this new information came to light during the public forum time of the meeting when local citizen and mom April Gibbs spoke to the council about almost losing her son after he attempted to take his own life while under the influence of a drug known as K2.

Why is our president bypassing Congress?

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama laid out his plans to curb gun violence.
These plans include 23 different executive orders that he plans to enforce. These are orders that he can put into effect that will bypass Congress completely. Among the orders are as follows:
•Issuing a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system
•Improving incentives for the states to share information with the federal background check system

I snuggled down in the recliner, my Bible, The Upper Room and Jesus Calling rested in my lap.
And our awesome Papa was in the chair beside me, a meaningful way to begin the new day.
We were up but the sun was not.
The coffee was hot and my heart was warm.
The New Year, only three days old, stretched before me.
Genesis and the story of Isaac filled my mind. Grieving the death of his mother, Rebecca walked into his heart and his tent and he was comforted.
Then he buried his righteous father and Isaac began the struggle to make his way in life.

Many people set resolutions, or goals, to reach for the year. Typically, these goals consist of weight loss, exercise, quit smoking, or just being healthy.
How many people think of their finances when they think about being healthy? Not many!
Your finances are a part of your overall health. Think about it. When your finances are in a good place, you tend to be generally happier and less stressed.

Can money buy happiness?

With two winners being recently announced for the $500 million Powerball jackpot, many people are dreaming about what they would do with that kind of money.
Selfishly, I know that I could find plenty of uses for that large sum of cash. Would it make me any happier than I am now? I doubt it.
The odds of winning such a large jackpot are 1 in 175 million.
Others who have won large sums of money are over-the-moon happy for a little while, but that wears off fairly quickly.
They still have the same outlook on life no matter how many things they buy.

An honorary turtle

Recently I was made a honorary turtle. Interesting, right?
At first I had no clue what it meant, until my fiancé’s best friend (also my friend) fully informed me exactly what it is and made me a turtle.
The Ancient and Honorable Turtles or “Turtles International Association”, started as an informal “drinking club” between World War II pilots, self-described as “an honorable drinking fraternity composed of ladies and gentlemen of the highest morals and good character, who are never vulgar.”
