The Fourth of July makes everyone smile - it’s grilled food, sparklers, and everything red, white, and blue. For many families, it is the best party of the summer.
This year, the City of Borger wants to make it one of the biggest celebrations of the summer.
Caprock Nursing and Rehabilitation employees will be honored today when the company receives its 5-star banner and plaque from state officials.

Lou Hatfield, 85 of Borger died on July 2 in Borger. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, at Faith Covenant Church with Pastor Les Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the funeral home.
Smitty Shelton, 72, of Canyon died June 29, 2014.
Graveside Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in Westlawn Cemetery with Pastor LaVon Thompson officiating. Arrangements were by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Smitty was born Jan. 10, 1942 in Higgins, Texas to C.W. and Annie Shelton. They moved to Borger in 1945. He graduated from Borger High School in 1960. He married Joyce Chapman on Aug. 15, 1963 in Borger.
Smitty worked for Phillips Petroleum for 29 years. They lived in Borger until 2008 when they moved to Canyon.
