Lady Bulldogs struggle in district loss to Pampa

There are times in sports when one miscue just seems to lead to the opening of the floodgate for several more to follow before a team can finally regroup.
For the Borger Lady Bulldogs, four of the five innings of their District 1-3A opener had the team holding their own with district rivals, the Pampa Lady Harvesters. However in the top of the third inning, a couple of walks and fielding errors opened the door for the Lady Harvesters to score nine runs before the Lady Bulldogs could regroup, giving Pampa the momentum they needed to leave Agnes Howe Park with the 16-2 win.

FPC Plainsmen complete sweep of NMMI

After winning the first two in the series on Friday with the NMMI Broncos, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen were able to complete the sweep on Saturday afternoon by taking game three in the series, 6-5 and game four, 13-8.
In game one, freshman Regan Calvert of Plano would get the win on the mound for the Plainsmen.
In game two, the Plainsmen found themselves down 5-7 in the eighth inning.

Odessa takes two from the Lady Plainsmen

On Saturday the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen dropped to 0-6 in WJCAC play by losing both games to Odessa College 9-4 and 4-0.
The Lady Plainsmen go to 6-17 for the season and will next host El Paso CC in a four game series this weekend starting on Friday at 1:00 p.m.

Lady Bulldogs ready for that next step, a playoff win

In the early days of the Borger Lady Bulldog Soccer program, finding consistent success on the field was something that the team struggled with, including coming up short in finding a way to get into post-season play.
Fortunately, things have changed over the past several years, as the Lady Bulldogs will take part in the 4A playoffs for the fourth year in a row when they take on the Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs in the Region I Area Round on Monday afternoon in Wichita Falls.

Friday afternoon Midland College left Borger taking both games in their series with the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen 9-5 and 11-3.

Betty Jean Colley, 82, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, in Borger.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hutchison, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Election time is here!

Election time is officially here!
Of the cities of Borger, Fritch, and Stinnett, the City of Borger is the only one who is having contested elections this year.
Two spots are up for election on the Borger City Council. In Place Two, Jeff Brain, who currently serves as Mayor of the City of Borger, is running unopposed for another term. In Place Three, Robert Vinyard, who is currently serving as Mayor Pro-Tem, is seeking re-election for another term. He is being challenged by John Ray and Brandy Callahan for the council seat.

WTHS sports department receives $10,000 donation

The West Texas High School Sports Department won $10,000 from Frito-Lay through the ‘Score for Your School’ Promotion.
They accepted the check from Frito-Lay North America during a special assembly yesterday on March 25 at 9am at the WTHS cafeteria The students won the promotion this fall by having the most votes for a Division 1A school in the state of Texas.

Superintendents to speak at upcoming HCRSPA meeting

The Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association will be meeting on April 21, 2011 at Frank Phillips. Lunch will be available in the cafeteria at 11:30am and following lunch in the Gallery Room at 12:30pm.
Chance Welch, Superintendent of Borger ISD, and Jim McClellan, Superintendent of Sanford-Fritch ISD, will be the speakers and will share information about our school systems and about the financial crisis facing those systems.
Everyone is invited to attend and hear the facts concerning the challenges that teachers in the Panhandle are encountering.

Frank Phillips College Plainsmen win two over NMMI

After an up-and-down trip south during Spring Break, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen returned home this weekend to take on the NMMI Broncos in a four-game WJCAC series.
In the first two games on Friday, the Plainsmen took care of business on their home field by coming away with two wins, 7-4 and 8-5.
Game one: Frank Phillips 7, NMMI 4
The Broncos opened the first game strong at the plate by scoring three runs in the first inning.
However, the Plainsmen used good second and third innings to score seven runs to take a 7-3 lead where they were able to hang on for the 7-4 win.
