Lois Hawley

April 2, 2011

Lois Hawley, 93, of Amarillo died on Thursday, March 31, 2011.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Tommy Anderson, Minister at Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Hawley was born on July 14, 1917 in McComb County, Mississippi to Albert and Flora Harbin. She was a member of Northridge Church of Christ.

BPD continues aggressive narcotics campaign

Five arrests made by department over two-day period

The Borger Police Department continues an aggressive campaign against narcotic related offenses.
During a two-day period, officers of the BPD made five arrests for narcotic-related offenses, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the PD.

Red Cross to hold murder mystery dinner

April 2, 2011

The American Red Cross of Borger will once again have another Murder Mystery Dinner as a fund raiser.
The theme of the dinner is “East Side Story: A 1950’s Murder Mystery,” which will be held at Dake’s on 718 N Main St. on April 9 at 6 p.m.

Former Borgan celebrates 100th birthday

A longtime former Borger resident recently celebrated a special milestone in her life.
Blanche Miller celebrated her 100th birthday with a reception in the Park Place Towers Parlor in Amarillo on March 19, 2011. Her family was in attendance, and several longtime friends from Borger also attended. Miller is a current resident of the Park Place Towers.
Miller was born on March 22, 1911, in Braymer, Mo., to Florence and Walter Jenks. Her mother worked as a dress maker, and her father worked for a salt plant and also an ice plant. She has one younger sister Mildred.

Webb to be inducted into the TGCA Hall of Fame

Longtime Borger ISD employee E.J. “Jeep” Webb has been selected as a 2011 Hall of Fame inductee by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA).
Webb will be recognized at an awards luncheon during the 2011 Summer Coaches Clinic on Wednesday, July 13th at the Omni Southpark Hotel in Austin.
Webb started his time in Borger in 1958 as an assistant coach before moving to Canyon in 1960.
Webb returned to Borger as an assistant football coach and head track coach in 1966.

Clarendon downs Lady Comanches

The West Texas Lady Comanches hosted the Lady Broncos from Clarendon on Friday.
It was a close game through five innings, with the score was tied at two until the top of the sixth. That’s when four WT errors and busy bats from Clarendon gave them seven runs along with two more in the seventh to give the Lady Broncos a 11-2 victory.
Danielle Heater was on the mound for the Lady Comanches. She struck out eight and walked four hitters. The Lady Broncos struck out eleven Lady Tribe batters.

Lady Plainsmen lose two to El Paso CC

Friday afternoon El Paso CC took the first two games in the four game series with the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen 4-3 and 12-4.

El Paso CC takes two from FPC Plainsmen

The start of the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen series with El Paso CC did not get off to a good start as two bad innings helped El Paso take game one 12-8.
The Plainsmen struggles continued in game two as El Paso’s bats stayed hot to defeated Frank Phillips 14-5 to take both games on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephen Seger, who has been solid on the mound much of the season, struggled in the first inning in game one by giving up a double, walk, single and a grand slam to give El Paso a 0-4 lead before the Plainsmen could get the first out.

Bulldogs look for 2-0 district mark on Saturday

With a record at 10-9-1, it is probably safe to say that the Borger Bulldog baseball team has plenty to be happy with at this point of the season while also knowing there are areas the team will need to continue to improve in as they to try to claim the District 1-3A crown and make a playoff run.
The Bulldogs opened district play this past Tuesday where the team came away with a 10-4 win over Dalhart that included a great pitching performance by senior Hunter Hertel with the righthander striking out 13 Wolf batters.

Robert Landrum Mathews

AMARILLO - Robert Landrum Mathews, 82, died March 30, 2011, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Corky Holland, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo.
Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell, Amarillo.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the funeral home.
