Borger firefighters are seeking more information on a fire that occurred this past Friday evening.
On The night of Friday, April 22, 2011, a fire was reported to Borger Fire department around 10 p.m.. The fire was located in a field between Arline and Elise street on the north side of town.
It was reported that neighbors saw kids playing with firecrackers and fled the scene before officials showed up.
A doctor from the Amarillo Heart Group was the special guest speaker for the Rotary Club meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Dr. Alan Chu of the Amarillo Heart Group shared about some of the work he does with the Amarillo Heart Group, along with some particulars about peripheral artery disease (PAD).
On Friday evening the Borger Lady Bulldog Softball Team will return to the playoffs, for the first time in several years, when it takes on the Levelland Loboettes at 5:30 p.m. in Hereford.
After a couple of years of going through growing pains with a young team, Lady Bulldog Head Coach Steve Watkins did a good job of keeping the team together as it grew and became a senior led team this season on their way to a 17-17 regular season record.
The Lady Bulldogs clinched their trip to the playoffs by going 4-5 in District 1-3A play to claim the second seed.
After the big win over Follett on Friday, the West Texas High Comanches suffered a little bit of a let down on Monday afternoon, as the Boys Ranch Roughriders were able to out-slug their way to a 13-10 win in District 6-1A action.
Going into the top of the fourth inning, the Comanches rallied from being down a run to score three to take a 8-6 lead. Unfortunately, the Roughriders were able to respond back in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings by scoring seven runs on their way to the win.
A suspect has been arrested for the homicide of a local citizen that took place last Thursday.
On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at approximately 6 p.m., Borger police and Texas Rangers arrested 47-year-old Gregorio Felan for the murder of Lois Kimbrell. Felan, a nearby neighbor to the victim, was processed at the Borger Police Department on the charge of murder, which is a felony of the first degree.
Over the past four years the Borger Little League Concession Stand, located in the center of the Agnes Howe Youth Baseball Complex, has fallen victim to burglary at least once a season.
This has resulted in the loss of money and food, along with damage to the concession stand that included a broken air conditioning unit in 2010.
This past Saturday, the concession stand once again was broken into and Borger Little League and the operators of the concession stand during the baseball season are asking for the communityâ€™s help in catching those responsible.
West Texas Elementary has yet again been recognized by the Division of NCLB Program Coordination at the Texas Education Agency for outstanding academic performance and received A Distinguished Progress and Distinguished Performance Awards for 2010-2011.
Garey Dozier, principal of WTES, stated that since 1998, the school has received this award 12 times.
In order for a school to get this type of recognition it has to have done the following:
â€˘Maintained a campus residing population of 40% or more low-income in 2010-2011
â€˘Met AYP in 2009 and 2010
The Hutchinson County Sheriffâ€™s Office has the following to report for April 10-22, 2011:
1) Deputies assisted Troopers with a one vehicle accident approximately 5 miles North of Stinnett on Highway 207.
2) Deputies assisted local fire departments with a grass fire on Highway 207 and the Canadian River Bridge, Electric City Area.
3) Deputies were called to the 100 Block of Eagle, Golf Course Addition, on a report of a welfare check.
4) Deputies were called to Gate # 14, Borger Refinery Complex, on a report of a stolen trailer.
FPC Head Softball Coach Jenneffer Kohler is pleased to announce the signing of Ashley Abair.
Abair, a pitcher for Kennedale High School, will be joining the Lady Plainsmen Softball Team this fall. Of Abair, Kohler said, â€śWe are excited to have her join the program. She shows a lot of promise in the circle using her movement and velocity to keep hitters off balance. With continued development, we see Ashley as a big part to the continued growth of our program.â€ť
PAMPA- On Monday evening, the West Texas Lady Comanches traveled to Pampa to take on the Booker Lady Kiowas in a Battle of the Tribes to determine which team would get to continue their season by claiming the District 6-1A number three seed and who would spend Tuesday checking in equipment and looking ahead to next year.
Both teams came out ready to play, with Kelsey McDonald for Booker and Danielle Heater for West Texas doing a solid job in the pitcherâ€™s circle in the low scoring affair.
