The Borger ISD board of trustees took time to honor a longtime board member who will be stepping off this May.
Gary Schneck was recognized for his service to the board. Schneck, who has served on the board for 15 years, was up for reelection in the upcoming May general election, but chose not to run for another term.
Robert Bradley is seeking another term of office as a BISD school member. Also seeking election to the school board are Scott Mills, Diedre Hood, and Les Sharp. The top two vote-getters will be elected to the board in the May general election.
Saturday afternoon Borger Bulldog fans are invited to attend a tailgate party that will begin at 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. before the District 1-3A game with the Perryton Rangers in Perryton that begins at 2 p.m.
The Baseball Booster Club will have a big cooker set up in Perryton in the parking lot of Ranger Field.
Bring your own food and the booster club will cook it and bring your lawn chairs.
A win by the Bulldogs clinches them the District 1-3A title outright, so make the short drive and support the Dogs.
The Borger Lady Bulldogs vs. Perryton Rangerettes District 1-3A softball game has been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Perryton.
Win by the Lady Bulldogs clinches the team a district playoff berth. While a win by Perryton could cause a set of play-in games on Saturday in Dumas.
Wednesdayâ€™s first round of the 3A Region I Golf Tournament got underway in less than ideal conditions at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock, leaving several players and coaches a little upset with the condition of the course.
Despite the poor conditions, the Borger Bulldogs made the most of the first round by shooting a team score of 319 to put them five strokes ahead of second place Andrews, 324.
Tyler Sosebee shot the high score for Borger on Wednesday, with a 77, to put him tied for sixth place, while Will Paulsell shot a 78 to place him tied for eighth.
After earning a spot in the state tournament in 2010, the brother and sister duo of senior Josh Madden and junior Abbie Madden sat on the verge on another trip to Austin when they took to the tennis court this morning in the 3A Region I Tennis Tournament Mixed-Doubles Final.
The Madden duo, the top seeds in the tournament, were set to have a rematch of the District 1-3A final by facing Aaron Silva and Holly Gage of Pampa.
The Maddens won that district final by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
The West Texas Comanches hosted the Claude Mustangs Tuesday afternoon. The last time the two met, it was in 40 mph winds and dirt. The weather was perfect and the Comanches dealt the Mustangs their second loss to WT this year, 12-5. The Comanches are still alone in second place in the District standings.
The Tribe put a couple of runners on base in the bottom of the first, but left them stranded. Claude sent seven hitters to the plate in the first two innings and one got on with a fielding error, but the Comanches took care of business and left him on base.
Lorraine Powell Johnson, 92, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Parks Assisted Living in Odessa.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Stockton, Texas with Dr. Jim Miles officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa. Private graveside services will be held in Panhandle, Texas.
After falling behind 0-5 to the Dalhart Lady Wolves, the Borger Lady Bulldogs showed a lot of heart on Tuesday evening, by battling back to tie the game 5-5 going into the seventh inning.
Unfortunately, Dalhart used two walks and two singles in the top of the seventh to bring around one run that ultimately ended the game with the 6-5 win in District 1-3A play.
With some abandoned boats moved from The Marina at Lake Meredith, workers out there are trying to figure out the best course of action for those boats.
With the low lake levels, the decision was made by the National Park Service late last year that the drop had resulted in lake levels that could no longer support marina services. The services that were provided at LMNRA were discontinued on Jan. 1, 2011.
Abandoned boats were moved to a parking lot and all docks and dock buildings will be demolished and recycled.
On Tuesday evening the Big Red Machine continued to roll at the plate, as the Borger Bulldogs had three players, Max Lusk, Garrett Irwin and Kody Davila, send balls over the fence in their District 1-3A contest with the Dalhart Golden Wolves.
The Bulldogs jumped out on top early building a 5-0 lead after two innings. But the team experienced a little bit of a scare as Dalhart battled back to eventually take a 8-9 lead by the sixth inning.
