Stinnett PD receives tip on ID theft case

The Stinnett Police Department has received a tip on an ID theft case which has been under investigation.
The tip is in regards to an ID theft video collected by the department from the Borger Dollar General.
The video shows a suspect forging his signature for purchased items that were initially bought on May 27, 2011.
He also committed the same crime in McDonald’s and the Stinnett Allsups. The amount of theft totaled $191.86.
Farbro said that the victim randomly checked his account on the internet, and realized someone was using his ATM/debit card.

Geraldine “Jeri” Osborne

Geraldine “Jeri” Osborne, 73, a former Panhandle resident, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Panhandle with Rev. Buddy Payne, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.

Bobbie (nee Wallis) Thiessen Schwalm

Bobbye (nee Wallis) Thiessen Schwalm, age 88, of Richardson, TX, was born 15 July 1922 in Mineral Wells and passed on peacefully 5 July 2011 after a lengthy illness.
She lived much of her younger life in Borger and Perryton, TX, and graduated from Borger High School.
Mother lived her life with a twinkle in her eye, strength in her step and a Texas can do spirit that inspired her family and friends.
She will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Chester F. Thiessen and Wallace R. Schwalm.

All county cities see rise in tax allocations

All cities in Hutchinson County saw an increase in their tax allocations during the month of July.
On Friday, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent sales tax allocations totaling $474.5 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 7.2 percent compared to July 2010.

Lady Plainsmen mixing freshmen size with sophomore guards

Entering his fourth year as head coach of the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Basketball team, Eric Rodewald has been able to do a good job of retaining players from the prior year. This is a task that can be pretty difficult for most programs at the JUCO level that don’t have the resources to offer full scholarships for essentially every player on the bench.

Elza “E.J.” James Hays, Jr.

Elza “E.J.” James Hays Jr., 69, of Beaverton, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1941, in Pampa, to Elza Sr. & Elzora (Reid) Hays. He enlisted into the United
States Air Force on Feb. 1, 1963, and retired Sept. 25, 1973, as a Staff Sergeant, serving in the Vietnam Era.
He was employed as a truck driver for Transport Services of Midland and moved to Gladwin County in 1973, previously residing in Texas.
He was a member of F.O.E. Albright Shores Aerie 3655.

Kari Francis Klause Williams

Paradise ~ Kari Francis Klause Williams, 48, a registered technical nurse, went to be with our Lord Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Paradise.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. Rev. Tim Sipes officiated.
Kari was born October 26, 1962 to Roger Sr. and Wanda (Campbell) Klause in Borger, Texas. She married Tuxie Ballard on February 19, 1999 in Borger, Texas. Kari served her country in the U.S. Air Force.
She is preceded in death by her father in 2008 and her brother, Roger Klause, Jr. in 2007.

Park rec program successful thanks to community help

The City of Borger Park Recreation Program has been rolling along this summer, and would not be the success it is without the aid of various community members and leaders.
Annadon Keys, director of the Johnson Park Youth Center, said if it was not for the amazing donations, the children participating in the program would not be able to do everything they get to do. She said she was thankful for the efforts of the Morley Theatre, Wildcatters, and the Circle Roller Rink in opening their doors to the children this summer.

Red Hat Mamas hold “Christmas in July” party

The Red Hat Mamas gathered for a special “Christmas in July” party Thursday afternoon at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Valley Drive. Hot dogs and all the trimmings were served. Attendants were asked to bring canned food/personal care items for Helping Hands or toys/clothes for foster children (Rainbow Room) ages 0-18 years old. Cash donations given will be divided between the two charities. Among those attending the “Christmas in July” party were Blanche Gipson, Whitney Bates, Cris Roberts, Delpha Ennis, Betty Kaylor, and Sheila Bates.

Bulldogs earn Second Team All-State honors

After helping to lead the Borger Bulldogs to the District 1-3A title and to the third round of the 3A playoffs, 2011 senior catcher Brandon Garica and senior outfielder Garrett Irwin were named to the Second Team in the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writer's Association's 3A All-State Teams on Thursday.
Garcia, the District 1-3A MVP, had an impressive 2011 season posting a .511 batting average with 11 homeruns and a .944 slugging percentage.
Playing centerfield, Irwin made the team after posting a .434 batting average with 34 RBI’s, 45 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
