Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument have officially posted a ban on smoking and campfires in the parks.
The restrictions were made effective Saturday and will remain in place until decided by the Superintendent.
Park officials feel that “the risk to public safety and structures within park boundaries and neighboring communities from a human-caused fire is great enough that these restrictions are necessary.”
Restrictions that have been put in place are as follows:
While a majority of the economic headlines in recent years have dealt with the loss of jobs and the rising cost in food and energy, the Borger Economic Development Corporation’s Spring Fling Breakfast on Friday morning gave people in the attendance a break from the economic bad news, with several positive reports given from Borger EDC backed projects within the community.
Two appeals to halt the process of demolition of property in town will be on the agenda of the Borger City Council Tuesday.
The council will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
In an era where television shows, movies and music from the 1970’s and 1980’s is revamped for a new generation, perhaps it would be fitting to call this year’s version of the Borger Bulldogs the “Big Red Machine” for the way the team continues to hit the ball in District 1-3A play.
For the fourth game in a row, the Bulldogs put on another hitting clinic on Saturday afternoon that included two three-run homers and a two-run homer on their way to getting a 13-3 win over the Pampa Harvesters in five innings.
The third time almost proved to be the charm as the Borger Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 8-1 deficit to take a 9-8 lead over the Pampa Harvesters in the fifth inning of their third meeting of the season.
Unfortunately, Pampa would rally to take the game 15-12 to send Borger to 3-4 in District 1-3A play.
With Dalhart’s loss to Perryton on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs still sit in second place with a one game lead over Dalhart and Perryton in the district race, with two games to go in the regular season.
Over the weekend the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen kept their hopes of claiming one of the WJCAC playoff spots alive by splitting their four-game series with Midland College.
After dropping both games on Saturday 9-2 and 6-5 in 10 innings, the Plainsmen rebounded to win both games on Sunday, 8-7 and 14-12.
The Plainsmen will next travel to Snyder this weekend for a big series with Western Texas College.
On Saturday afternoon the FPC Lady Plainsmen cracked the WJCAC win column in getting the series split with Western Texas College by winning game one 2-1 and dropping the second game 1-2 in nine innings.
On Sunday the Lady Plainsmen dropped both games to Howard College 5-3 and 8-0.
The Lady Plainsmen go to 7-27 for the season and 1-15 in WJCAC play.
High winds on Friday caused the Frank Phillips College baseball and softball doubleheaders to be rescheduled for Sunday, April 17th.
The FPC Plainsmen baseball team will take on Midland College on Sunday starting at 11:00 a.m. while the FPC Lady Plainsmen softball team will begin their doubleheader with Howard College at 1:00 p.m.
