BHS graduate list receives final approval

The list of graduates for the Class of 2011 at Borger High School has been officially approved by the Borger ISD board of trustees.
The action took place at the board’s regular meeting last Tuesday. Graduates on the list for the Class of 2011 are as follows:
Karla Sarahi Alonso, Madison Bailey Argo, Britten Erick Arnold, Kortney Rose Barnett, Lyndsey JeanAnn Barrow, Gabriel Alexander Bittner, Hannah Elizabeth Blakely, Taelor Kaeschel Bodey, Emma Leigh Boren, Kylie Danielle Boyd, Billy Dwain Brittain, Jordan Danielle Brittenham, Cody Edward Brown, Kay Lee Ruth Brown;

Pirates end Bulldogs 2011 season with 11-0 win

PLAINVIEW-On Saturday afternoon, a comeback just was not in the cards for the Borger Bulldogs in their 3A Regional Quarterfinal series with the Lubbock Cooper Pirates.
The Pirate hitters did a good job flexing their muscles by sending five balls over the fence to take game two and get the series sweep by a score of 11-0 at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview.

Rosalyn Fryatt

Rosalyn Fryatt, of Borger, passed away, Friday, May 20, 2011, after a short battle with cancer.
Rosalyn J. (Marshall) Fryatt was born Monday, March 27, 1939 in Faxon, OK to Henry and Eunice (Carter) Marshall. She married Bob Fryatt on June 20, 1958 in Borger, TX. She was a homemaker. Rosalyn was also a supporter of the Lion’s Club and Compassionate Friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Brent Lee Fryatt.

Donald Gene Smith

Donald Gene Smith, 73, of Spring, Texas, passed away May 19, 2011. He was born August 2, 1937 in Borger, Texas to the late Ray and Ruby Smith. Don is also preceded in death by his sister Cora Lee Loudon and Jill’s mother Sandra De Ann Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Lillian Smith; daughter Jill Belinda; step-daughter Kelly Quick and husband David; grandchildren Nathan Ray Smith-Lorrain and Katherine Coerver; brother Ralph Wayne Smith; nephew Cameron Powell Smith; and nieces Jan and Sharon.

Crime Stoppers seeking help in solving burglary

Crime Stoppers and the Borger Police Department are seeking the help of the public in regards to information on a recent burglary.
The incident in question is a burglary of a habitation that occurred on May 6, 2011.
Between 5 and 8 p.m. on this particular day, a person or persons forced entry into a residence in the 500 block of Wilson Street.

WTHS names top two graduates

West Texas High School has named its top graduates for the Class of 2011.
Kami Roden is this year’s valedictorian with a GPA of 102.467 and Erin Frost is this year’s salutatorian with a GPA of 99.674.
While at WTHS, Roden was active in various extracurricular activities, which included playing flute in the band, Color Guard, Dinner Theatre, J.V. Cheerleading, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, serving on Student Council and as a class officer, T.A.F.E., U.I.L. Band Solo/Ensemble, U.I.L. Calculator, U.I.L. Computer Science, U.I.L. Mathematics, and U.I.L. Number Sense.

Throughout his time in high school, Hoff has played a key role in the success of the Comanches in football, basketball, baseball and track.
In football, Hoff helped lead the Comanches to the bi-district playoff round by collecting 1,023 yards on 96 attempts, rushing with nine touchdowns while throwing for 1,031 yards, on 53 or 106 attempts, with 13 passing and seven interceptions.

Prior to his arrival in 2009, the Borger Bulldog football team had endured a couple of hard years on the field and was a football program that had not seen a district title since 1981.
Under the leadership of Rusty Purser, the Borger Bulldogs improved greatly on the field, which includes earning a share of the 1-3A District title in 2009, followed by claiming the title outright this season with a perfect 3-0 mark in district play.

Pirates make Dogs walk the plank in game one

PLAINVIEW-In three different innings, the Borger Bulldogs loaded the bases with opportunities to have big innings, but the team managed to get just one run across home plate through five innings of play.
But in the other dugout, the Lubbock Cooper Pirates used a big fourth inning to score nine runs on their way to defeating Borger 12-1 in game one of the best-of-three 3A Regional Quarterfinal Playoff Series at Wayland Baptist in Plainview.
