Baca spending time in front of the television and movie cameras

If moving his local studio from Cedar Street to its new location in the old Smitty’s Furniture Building on Main Street and opening new studios in Guymon and Spearman were not keeping him busy enough, Master MarkAnthony Baca of American Karate Studios could soon be on a television or movie screen near you.
Baca has been spending some time in front of a television camera down in Austin for a martial arts based reality show, while now preparing for a role in an upcoming independent film scheduled to start shooting in July titled “The Cain Complex.”

Local players named to Globe News Super Team

The great 2011 season for the Borger Bulldogs did not go unnoticed by the Amarillo Globe News as the regional newspaper named three Borger Bulldogs to the 15 members Globe News Baseball Super Team.
Hunter Hertel, Brandon Garcia and Garrett Irwin were named to the team, after posting some impressive stats on a Bulldog team that won the District 1-3A title outright and advanced three rounds deep into the 3A playoffs.
Hertel earned Super Team honors as a pitcher by posting a 10-4 record with a 2.68 ERA and striking out 89 batters.

Crime Stoppers seeking info on meth labs

The Hutchinson County and Hansford County Crime Stoppers are aiming to crack down on meth labs, and are seeking the help of the public in making that happen.
Effective immediately, Crime Stoppers is offering a $500 reward to any person that calls its hotline at 274-6371 with relevant information in regards to a methamphetamine lab and the information leads to the discovery and seizure of such a lab.

Council to hear city water quality report

Information on the City of Borger’s water quality will be presented at the upcoming meeting of the Borger City Council.
The meeting is set to be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall.
The council will hear a report on the city’s water quality from Winston Sauls, who manages operations at the city water plant. Sauls holds a TCEQ Class A Water License, and is a Certified NELAC/EPA/TCEQ Water Lab Director.
Sauls will also present recommendations on how the citizens of Borger can help with water conservation.

Officials seeking assistance with recent burglaries

The Hutchinson County and Hansford County Crime Stoppers and the Borger Police Department are seeking assistance in solving three burglaries that have occurred in the city limits of Borger.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said all three of these burglaries were committed at the same location, which was the apartment complex located at 605 West Wilson Street.
During the burglaries, the suspect or suspects involved took three air conditioner window units out of three different apartments.

Blood drives to be held in Borger next week

Coffee Memorial Blood Center is set to host three blood drives in the Borger area next week.
The first drive is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at the Chevron Phillips (Philtex Ryton) Borger plant. A bloodmobile will be located near the South Office Complex.
The second drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Interim Home Health Care, located at 1313 West Wilson in Borger.

FPC’s Hackett bringing in good mixture of size and skill for 2011-12 season

Over the past couple of years, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen have been a basketball team that could shoot the ball as good as anyone they matched up with in the WJCAC.
The biggest problem the team has struggled with is having a lack of size around the basket to develop a good combination of an inside/outside game, as well as grabbing rebounds on both ends of the court.

BPD, Juvenile Probation tackling graffiti problem

Two local departments are coming together to help stop the continual spread of graffiti within the City of Borger.
The Borger Police Department and Hutchinson County Juvenile Probation Department have recently teamed up to combat this problem.
Gang-related graffiti has become an increasing problem in the city, and the two departments have come with a creative way to stop it, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
“Juveniles who are currently on probation and ordered to perform community service for crimes of graffiti, are now assisting in cleaning up the graffiti,” he said.

Air Race Classic pilots to stop in Borger next week

The Hutchinson County Airport is preparing to have some special visitors.
Pilots in The 35th annual Air Race Classic will make a pit stop in Borger next week. Dennis O’Bryant, Airport Manager, said they are expected to come in on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. The race is from June 21-24.
