On Friday night, the Borger Bulldogs overcame a bad second period and 19 turnovers in their come from behind 38-36 win over the Gruver Greyhounds in Gruver’s new basketball palace.
The comeback was the result of the team not letting their frustrations get the best of them and instead finding a way to make plays when they needed to in the fourth period, with each player on the roster contributing in the win.
The game started good for the Bulldogs as junior Jamon Hearon scored five points in the first minute to give Borger a quick 5-0 lead.
West Texas High hosted the Highland Park Hornets last night in their last tune up before District action begins on the 9th. The Tribe had a twelve point lead during the second quarter, and in fact, the Hornets only get their second basket of the game with 4:56 left in the half. But, theirs is a story of two halves, they made it a game in the third and most of the fourth, until the Comanches slowly edged away to take the win 51-28. The win gives WT High a 15-5 record going into Loop play.
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles hosted the Childress Lady Cats for the first District 1-2A matchup of the season.
The game began with the Lady Eagles applying full court pressure to rattle up Childress.
Big plays and defensive stops by the Lady Eagles kept them ahead at end of quarter one 8-6.
The second quarter showed what the Lady eagles have been doing the last few weeks.
They are running the court, playing great defense and dominating the inside.
On Friday evening, the West Texas High Lady Comanches did a pretty good job on the defensive end in their District 1-1A opener against the #8 state ranked Gruver Lady Greyhounds in Gruver.
Unfortunately, 22 turnovers and struggles on the offensive end by the Lady Comanches gave the Lady Greyhounds to opportunity to pull away in the second half on their way to the 50-15 win.
In the first period, the Lady Comanches did a good job applying defensive pressure which limited Gruver’s scoring opportunities early in the game.
