HOPE 2011 set for this Saturday

HOPE 2011 is now just four days away!
This year’s event is set to take place on Sept. 24, 2011, at the Crutch Ranch, with a theme of “Fiesta de la HOPE – Viva la Cure!!!”
No one under the age of 21 will be admitted and an ID and HOPE ticket will be required for entrance into the event. The bartender will have the right to check IDs.
Events will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a welcome party for sponsors and underwriters. Appetizers will be served at that time and gaming will begin.

Bulldogs fall short against the Demons, 20-12

DUMAS-On Friday night, the Borger Bulldogs were able to rack up 120 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter against the Dumas Demons. Unfortunately, offensive struggles in the first three quarters proved to be too much for Borger to over come, as the Demons were able to hang on for a 20-12 win over the Bulldogs.

Spearman hands Comanches first loss of the year

The West Texas Comanches were celebrating 25 years of fielding a football team at their Homecoming game vs the Spearman Lynx last night. WT High celebrated by sporting the jerseys of the two teams from the schools that make up the District now, Stinnett Rattlers in the first half, and the Phillips Blackhawks in the second half, while the cheerleaders wore Plemons Indians outfits. All three represent the schools that no longer exist since combining to make WT High.

Canadian rolls over Sanford-Fritch 44-6

On Friday evening, the Canadian Wildcats drove into a town filled with Black & Blue ribbon celebrating it’s homecoming. Those same Wildcats came ready to play some football, despite the festivities. Eagles fought hard but without some key players, found a well- disciplined opponent.
The first half was all Wildcats. They moved their offense and scored rather quickly to take an early 18-0 lead before a packed stadium.
Turnovers plagued the Eagles all night, and gave the Wildcats great field position.

Price discusses current legislative session

A state representative from the panhandle area visited the Borger area to visit with the public about some of the issue from the recent Texas legislative session.
Four Price, State Representative for District 87, was the special guest of the Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association Thursday afternoon.

Borger coach placed on leave

September 16, 2011

On Thursday afternoon, Borger ISD Athletic Director Rusty Purser confirmed that Michael Littlejohn has been put on paid administrative leave with the school district.
At this time, Purser declined to give details for the administrative leave other than to say that the school district is conducting an investigation into allegations brought against Littlejohn.
Over the past week, several of the parents of players in the Borger volleyball program have approached school officials over concerns related to the coach.

Borger PD makes arrest in robbery case

The Borger Police Department has made an arrest in conjunction with a recent robbery incident.
On Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, the BPD responded to an aggravated robbery that occurred at the intersection of Crockett Street and McGee Street.
The incident began when the victim, a female who was 71 years of age, agreed to give the suspect a ride after he assisted her with loading items she had purchased from a local garage sale into her vehicle.
Once at the intersection of Crockett Street and McGee Street, the suspect used physical force to obtain the victim’s purse from her.

Homecoming festivities planned in Fritch and Stinnett

Tonight and on Friday, West Texas High School is celebrating homecoming and have a couple of special activities schedule for students and Comanche fans to take part in.
Tonight following the junior varsity football game, the school is holding a big pep rally at the football field scheduled to begin around 9:00 p.m. Due to the county burn ban, the lighting of the “WT” will not take place this year.
On Friday, the high school will host a pep rally at the WT Field House starting at 2:30 p.m.

Fritch water usage plan finalized

The City of Fritch has finalized plans on its water usage.
City Council members agreed to authorize issuance of the city of Fritch, Texas waterworks and sewer system revenue certificates of obligation, series 2011 prescribing the terms and conditions thereof; providing for the payment thereof; awarding the sale of the certificates; making other provisions regarding such certificates, including the use of proceeds thereof; and matters incident thereto.
City Manager Bobby Lamb stated, “City of Fritch has been working on this particular project to buy Hi-Texas Water for about two years.”

Comeback falls short. Amarillo Highland Park tops Borger in five games

On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs rallied from a two games to none deficit, to the Amarillo Highland Park Lady Hornets, winning two straight games and forcing a deciding game five.
Unfortunately, a fantastic comeback fell short for Borger as Highland Park used a 5-1 run in game five to give them the cushion they needed for the win to take the match 17-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-6, 9-15.

  The Future Lady Bulldog Basketball Camp will be held on July 14th through the 17th.
