Virgil Hynes, 75, of Borger, passed away Monday Oct. 10, 2011, in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday Oct. 13, 2011, at Church of Christ at Borger with Mr. Denny Sneed officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Hope at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
George Glenn Breen, Jr., of Fritch, Texas, passed away October 9, 2011, at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home, where he had been a resident since late June.
Born to Naomi Epperson Breen and George Breen, Sr., in Pecos, Texas, George married Margaret Auldine Elliott in Pecos, June 17, 1947.
Over the past two years, there is no question that the West Texas High Lady Comanches can be called â€śThe Queens of the Courtâ€ť in Class 1A volleyball in the Texas Panhandle.
Last night, the Lady Comanches extended their District 5-1A winning streak to 14 matches by defeating Ft. Elliott on the road in straight sets, 25-12, 25-6, 25-12.
The way Tuesday nightâ€™s match started between the Dalhart Lady Wolves and the Borger Lady Bulldogs, fans on both sides of Tex Hanna Gym probably felt like the match was going to be a quick one due to Dalhart jumping out to a fast two games to none lead.
But the Lady Bulldogs found a way to regroup and fight back to take the third and fourth games to force a deciding game five.
On Saturday, the Borger Bulldogs boys golf team traveled to Canyon to play in the Randall Triangular. Borger was paired with Randall and Amarillo Palo Duro high. The bulldogs placed first in there tri meet with a team total of 315.
Borger scores were: Dylan Coffer 75, Billy Haynes 77, Kaylor Chatwell 78, Tyler Sosebee 85, Devontae Landers 87
Borger Boys Golf Coach Clinton Grange said, â€śThe course played tough this weekend but despite the wet and cool conditions the boys stepped up and posted some really great scores.â€ť

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles swept the Lady Cats from Childress in three straight games in District 1-2A action.
In the first game, Sanford-Fritch struggled with serving and let Childress stay in the game with many lead changes. The Lady Cats had some great opportunities to win but Sanford-Fritch came together to finish strong. 25-22
Game two was Sanford-Fritchâ€™s game to take charge. Great serving from senior Mariah Cumings and hard hits from Jacy Judd helped the Lady Eagles move past Childress for the win. 25-9
On Saturday, October 15th, Freestyle School of Karate & MMA will be holding a Womenâ€™s Self-Defense Seminar from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
On why the school is holding the self-defense seminar, Master Donald Stang of Freestyle School of Karate & MMA said, â€śI believe this is much needed for our ladies in this community, due to what has happen recently and for their future protection. We offer 28 years of experience in the Martial Arts and great understanding in what it takes to teach someone to defend themselves.â€ť
Borger ISD will be having a busy homecoming schedule over the next couple of days.
The homecoming parade will be held starting at around 6-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. The parade route will line up at 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Cornerstone Christian Church, 10th and Main, and proceed south on Main Street, west on Third Street, and south on McGee towards BHS.
Lucile Evelyn Leigh, 96, of Borger, died Sunday, October 9, 2011.
A rosary will be held at Minton Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johnâ€™s Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Colwell officiating. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
As plans are being made to amend the animal control ordinance for the City of Borger, one of the issues addressed in the ordinance is the number of pets that can be owned by an individual at any one time.
Except as authorized, a person commits an offense if he or she owns or harbors on the premises of a single residence more than four pets or companion animals in any combination.
